Where is the Tumu Fort?

Tumubao is a castle located in Huailai County, Zhangjiakou City, Hebei Province, China. Tumubao is located on the inner side of the Great Wall from Juyongguan to Datong, and is an integral part of the Great Wall defense system.

Tumu Fort is located 10 kilometers east of Huailai County. It is a boat-shaped castle. The castle is about 500 meters long from north to south, 1,000 meters from east to west, and the city wall is about 6, 7 meters high. Only the south wall and the west wall exist in the fort wall. It was originally an earthen brick package, but now only earthen walls remain.

In the Ming Dynasty, Yulin Fort, Tumu Fort and Jiming Fort were the three largest forts in northern Beijing. In 1449, the Ming Yingzong personally conquered the Wara tribe of Mongolia, but was besieged by the Wara army in the Tumu Fortress. The Ming army was defeated. The history is called the Tumu Fortress. After the restoration of the Yingzong’s defeat of the gate in 1457, the Xianzhong Temple was built in the fort to worship and praise the 20 to 30 generals of the Ming Dynasty who died in the civil fort.

In July of the 14th year of Ming Dynasty Orthodox (AD 1449), the Wara tribe entered the Ming Dynasty. Under the instigation of the eunuch Wang Zhen, Zhu Qizhen of Ming Yingzong hurriedly led more than 200,000 soldiers to conquer the army due to lack of preparation. Ten thousand, 66 ministers including Shangshu Kuang Ye and Wang Zuo of Hubu Shangshu died in battle.

The record of the changes in civil engineering is not as true and detailed as Li Xianzhi’s “Tianshun Rilu”: “Tomorrow will be stationed in the civil engineering camp. Xuanfu reports, and Cheng Guo Gong will be sent to welcome him with 50,000 soldiers. Brave and innocent, he ventures into Yaoerling. , Hu Kou invited to block the attack on the two wings of the mountain, killing all, and then took the victory to the civil engineering. Tomorrow tomorrow, encircling the camp, dare not do it.

August 15th, at noon, the horses and horses do not drink water for one or two days, thirsty, digging From the well to two feet, there is no spring in the depths. The bandits can’t see it, they retreat. The quick rumor makes the Taiwan camp go south to the water. After three or four miles, the bandits are surrounded by the surrounding area, and no one is fighting. Waiting to die, or rushing to the camp, piles up like a mountain. Fortunately, the Hu people are greedy and profitable and do not specialize in killing.

More than 200,000 people are injured in half, one of the three dead, mules and horses are more than 200,000, and their armors are exhausted. For the Hu people, it is fully loaded. Since ancient times, the Hu people have not benefited from China. Hu people also say that they are out of expectation, and the situation has been obtained by the public. Is it accidental?”

Li Xian, the original German character, the eighth year of Xuande Jinshi, was awarded the principal of inspection and seal, and he moved to the orthodox middle school to test the meritorious doctor, and changed the essay selection. In the 14th year of Orthodox, “Rescue from the Northern Expedition, and the division returned.”

The Yingzong was restored, and he ordered the sage and the Hanlin bachelor to enter the Zhiwenyuan Pavilion. From then on, Li Xian “because of being the master of the people, and saying everything”, he was quite effective in improving the politics of the mid-Ming Dynasty. Not only did Li Xian personally experience civil affairs, but he was also active on the political stage with the appearance of an official who puts state affairs as his priority.

Before the Yingzong’s personal conquest, he worked with his colleagues to persuade the official minister Shangshu Wang to lead the officials to stay in the chapter; during the march, he and some historians planned to kill Wang Zhen, stop the personal conquest, and make the Yingzong return to Beijing safely. In Li Xian’s observation of the changes in civil engineering, the significance of the background of such enthusiastic events is self-evident.

More than 500 years have passed. Today, in Tumu Town, you can still see the remains of the city walls that the Ming army relied on. The earth walls of a few meters high extend intermittently in the fields and civilian rooms, and some are used as courtyard walls by the villagers. These historical sites are still preserved to this day.

There is also the Xianzhong Shrine that can “tell” that period of history. It was built by the Ming Dynasty to worship the dead soldiers after the “Turbo Fort”. After several times of destruction and restoration, there are still three halls and some inscriptions. Looking inside the locked door of a large hall in the middle, you can see a sign with a brief introduction to the Shrine and a sign with the title and name of the minister of the dead, piled with water pipelines, farm tools and other sundries.

Today’s Tumubao is located in Huailai County, Zhangjiakou City, Hebei Province, China. The Tumubao changed during the Ming Dynasty and has now become an ordinary small village, but this unforgettable history should be engraved on everyone’s Heart.
