Okayama Art and Culture Zone, Japan

Okayama Museum of Art and Culture Zone is located in the city of Okayama to the east of the Okayama Railway Station. There are 5 large museums that can be walked thoroughly, not far apart:

1. Yumeji Art Museum Exhibiting created in 1984, there are 100 pieces in permanent exhibitions and over 2,000 rotating exhibitions. The most famous paintings are Tatsuta Hime, Akino Ikoi, and Kamogawa, which are hanging and scrolling paintings.

2. Hayashimbara Museum of art is the museum of the Hayashibara Group. Opened in 1964, the Ichiro Hayashibara collection contains over 10,000 artifacts such as personal collectibles, swords, armor, pottery. Noh apparels, furniture, paintings and ceramics of the Ikeda family Which will rotate each exhibition 4-5 times per year.

3. Prefecture Museum of Art is a relatively large museum. The collection of art images is especially relevant to the artists of Okayama. There is also a temporary exhibition that is on display as well.

4. Museum of Oriental Art is exhibit the art of the eastern side of the world in ancient times Since the Roman times, Byzantine, Romanian and Islamic, there are a total of 4,852 pieces.

5. Okayama Prefecture Museumis a museum that shows history and the development of Okayama Prefecture from prehistoric times to feudal times. This will focus on eating in the city, sword making and pottery.

    Closed: Mondays (if Monday Is a public holiday, will be closed on Tuesday). New Year’s holiday
  5. Okayama Prefectural Museum
    Opening Hours: 9: 00-18: 00 (October – March 9: 30-17: 00)
    Closed: Every Monday (If Monday is a day Public holidays are closed on Tuesday) New Year’s holidays.

How to get there:

  • Access Take the tram to get off at Shiroshita Station or
  • take the Higashiyama Line to get off at Shiroshita Stop. It takes 5 minutes.
