About Diamond Sutra

The Vajrayana Paramita Sutra (English: Diamond Sutra) is the name of an important sutra in the Paramita philosophy of Mahayana Buddhism. It is believed that the Prajna Paramita Sutras were the earliest Mahayana sutras to arise.

Sutra name

The full name of the Vajra Prachaya Paramita Sutra in Sanskrit is Vajracchedika Prajnaparamita Sutra (Sanskrit: वज्रच्छेदिका प्रज्ञापारमितासूत्र; Vajrajchetika Prachaya Paramita Sutra) means the sutra on wisdom as perfect as a diamond that cuts illusion. It is ignorance and prejudice that hinder people from attaining enlightenment. In English, it is generally referred to as “Diamond Sūtra” (Diamond Sutra) or “Vajra Sūtra” (Vajra Sutra).
