Description:
Osaka Castle Tower
The towering tower of Osaka Castle with a blue sky as a backdrop. Osaka Castle was built in Tensho 11 (1583) by Toyotomi Hideyoshi, who aimed to unify the world. It was built from the ruins of Honganji Temple.
The castle tower, the central building of the main castle, was completed two years later, but it was burned down with the fall of the Toyotomi clan during the Osaka Summer Camp in Keicho 20 (1615).
It was rebuilt during the Tokugawa period but was struck by lightning again in Kanbun 5 (1665). Since then, Osaka Castle has had no castle tower. The current castle tower was rebuilt in Showa 6 (1931) at the request of the then-mayor of Seki with donations from the public.
The castle tower, which was renovated for the first time in 266 years, is 55 meters high from the ground. The exterior has 5 floors and the interior has 8 floors. The guardian fish Shachi statue on the roof and golden furyu tigers shine everywhere (Japanese tangible cultural properties).
Major renovations were carried out from the Heisei 7th to 9th years (1995-97). You can see the whole of Osaka from the observation deck on the 8th floor.
