In order to make the trip to Koyasan, a World Heritage Site, even more attractive, we are working with local residents to develop and plan the attractions of the areas, nature, and spiritual world along the railway lines, thereby creating new real pleasures of travel. Generic name, “Tenku” is its symbol.

Birth and Origin of Heaven

The cold air of the forest that blows through the cabin, the voices of birds carried by the wind, the sounds of insects, and the scent of flowers. Five senses that are sharpened as you go. Forget your daily life and unleash your mind. “Tenku” was born as a special train journey where you can enjoy the time you return to yourself slowly.

Koyasan, a world heritage site founded by Kobo Daishi Kukai, is located at an altitude of about 900m, and its townscape is just like a city in the sky. The nickname of the train comes from the impression that Koyasan creates.

By all means, enjoy the journey of the train “Tenku”, which goes slowly up and up as you enjoy the road to Koyasan while weaving through steep slopes and sharp curves in the mountains.

Vehicle Origin and Performance

The predecessor of Tenku is Zoom Car No. 22013-22014 manufactured in 1970. In 1994, this was updated as No. 2203-2253 for the Koya Line and operated on general routes, but it was reborn as Tenku in 2009 by remodeling it to mountain specifications by taking advantage of the basic performance at the time of manufacture.

About the logo

Sky logoThe Tenku logo symbolizes the wind that blows through the observation deck space, the mountain ridgeline that can be seen from the wide-view train window, and the twinkling stars in the sky that spread far above, along with the character for the forest that you can feel on the way. By combining the clear atmosphere of the sky with the character “sky” which expresses the feeling of travel that you can feel from there, it is a magnificent expression.
