General Information

South East Technological University (SETU) is the first university of technology in the South East of Ireland. SETU is one of the newest universities in the country, established in May 2022 following the merger of Waterford Institute of Technology and Institute of Technology, Carlow (IT Carlow). The university operates in Carlow (Leinster) and Waterford (Munster).

South East Technological University is on a journey to transform lives through outstanding learning, collaboration and innovation, offering outstanding academic and research facilities.

SETU has institutional agreements with over 100 university partners worldwide where students can spend part of their studies. Before each academic year, the Office of International Relations organises an orientation programme for all new international students.

Services for International Students:

South East Technological University offers a professional English language programme aimed at enhancing the grammar, vocabulary and language skills of students whose first language is not English. SETU also provides a comprehensive and caring service to help students on their path to academic success.

Accommodation:

SETU is located just a two-minute walk from the College Street Campus and approximately a 15-minute walk from the Main Campus City Campus. The accommodation consists of 66 single en-suite rooms, designed to make students comfortable enough to study in a peaceful environment.

SETU has three rooms suitable for disabled people and a mix of accessible activities. The University believes in student safety and promotes an atmosphere of independent living.

Location:

Carlow and Waterford are two of the liveliest cities in Ireland, and have a wonderful natural setting. Carlow is situated on the banks of the River Barrow (the second longest in Ireland), while Waterford is located south of the River Suir. Carlow is 85 km south-west of Dublin and Waterford is 172 km from the capital.

Both cities have many attractions, libraries and museums, including the Brownshill Dolmen, Waterford City Library, Waterford Museum of Treasures, Reginald’s Tower, Oak Park, etc.
