Kumamoto Castle (熊本城, Kumamoto-jō) was built in 1607 by Kato Tokio Yama and all of 49 towers in the castle are made of all wood. This been burned into ashes in battle in 1877. The tower was restored and rebuilt.  The stone wall monument observes the grandeur of the former castle. Kumamoto Castle suffered serious damage in the earthquakes of April 2016. Many roof tiles fell, foundations were damaged.
