Synopsis:
At the end of the 1970s, Li Ping, a female worker in a cigarette factory in a certain city, had a dream of marriage and stuffed a small piece of paper in a cigarette box. While she was waiting, military officer Wu Tianliang appeared in front of her. She followed the man to the military garrison and began married life. Married life is different from imagination, but she and her husband’s subordinate Wang Xiaomao have become close friends.
Soon Wu Tianliang and Xiao Mao changed jobs at the same time and were assigned to the Ministry of Railways to participate in the construction of the Qinghai-Tibet Railway. As Wu Tianliang transferred all his energy to work, Li Ping’s life became plain and boring. When visiting family alone, Li Ping decided to meet Wang Xiaomao. When the two met, Li Ping filed a divorce with Wu Tianliang.
Soon, Li Ping and Wang Xiaomao remarried, their daughter was born, and their lives were happy and beautiful. Xiao Mao borrowed money around, raised money to buy a car and became a taxi driver. But the good times didn’t last long, and Xiao Mao died while fighting a gangster. And Wu Tianliang’s remarried wife also died on the Qinghai-Tibet Railway construction site. When the two met again with their respective children, Li Ping couldn’t help but think deeply about his own view of happiness.
