You’re invited to the free premiere screening of a short film responding to our London, Sugar & Slavery gallery produced by artist and activist Elsa James. Join us for a self-guided tour of the gallery followed by the screening, a Q&A with Elsa and museum curators, and a reception. If you can’t attend in person, book a free digital ticket to see the film and join the Q&A virtually.
The Museum of London Docklands invited Essex-based artist and activist Elsa James to respond to its London, Sugar & Slavery gallery with a disruptive intervention. Based on her research, she produced a 7-minute film: Living in the Wake of the Lust for Sugar. Elsa describes the process as spontaneous and intuitive when compared to her usual approach in creating new work:
After a self-guided tour of the London, Sugar & Slavery gallery, at 5pm you can join Elsa and museum curators for the premiere screening of her film and have the opportunity to ask questions, followed by a reception.
