Synopsis:
Near the end of the 1990s, the forestry industry began to “reduce production, limit logging, and lay off workers.” For the first time, Gu Changshan’s family and members of the 923 work team faced the choice of staying or leaving.
Gu Changshan has adopted Xingjie, the orphaned son of his late colleague who died on duty. Despite their initial hesitation, the Gu family decides to help Xingjie continue with his studies. Meanwhile, the layoff crisis among forestry workers gradually resolved itself as the younger workers became the first to leave. Gu Changshan leads the remaining people to participate in the “family ecological forest” project.
In 2007, in order to protect the ecology and improve people’s livelihoods, the resettlement project in remote areas began, and the 923 team once again faced a tough choice. Xingjie is pulled back to the mountains as he takes over the task of mobilizing immigrants and bears the mission of forestry reform. Given the logging restrictions in 2014 and 2015, Xingjie actively responds to the call that “gold and silver mines are not as good as blue waters and green mountains” and leads the people toward a better life.

From 1998 to 2015, China’s forestry has undergone tremendous changes in the past two decades. At this stage, Gu Changshan adopted his son Xingjie who sacrificed his partner on duty. After some hesitation, the Gu family finally decided to let Xingjie go outside to continue his studies. The layoff crisis also ended with some young people leaving first, and those who remained, under the leadership of Gu Changshan, set up a “family ecological forest” to temporarily solve the livelihood crisis. The time came in 2007 when the transformation reached a new node. In order to protect the ecology and improve people’s livelihood, the resettlement project in remote forest areas began, and the 923 team once again faced the proposition of going out.
Xingjie was also pulled back to Dashan. After resolving the family crisis, Xingjie took over the task of mobilizing immigrants and found his own value in it. He was determined to stay and shoulder the mission of forestry reform. Later, under the background of comprehensive logging restrictions in 2014 and 2015, Xingjie actively responded to the call that “golden mountains and silver mountains are not as good as green water and green mountains”, and led his family and more people in the forest area towards a better new life.
