Furuna- Saying the First

( 梵語:Pūrna,巴利語:Punna, 或Puṇṇo, พระปุณณมันตานีบุตร (富樓那, 富樓那(梵語:Pūrna,巴利語:Punna或Puṇṇo)

1. The name of Mancizi

As a disciple of the great sage Shakyamuni Buddha, it is of course important to practice Taoism to liberate life and death, but it is also important to spread the truth and save lives with the Dharma.

A person who can let go of the shackles of family love, return to the embrace of the Great Enlightened Buddha, devote his life to the cause of spreading the truth, and never be disappointed and discouraged with the world; always be compassionate and enthusiastic towards all living beings, that is Fulou, the number one saying The Venerable.

To be able to proclaim the teachings of the Buddha competently is indeed a very difficult job. Because the Dharma to be preached must not only conform to the truth of the Buddha, but also conform to the root causes of all living beings. Of course, it is not without reason that Fuluna is recognized as the number one Dharma among thousands of disciples.

To understand Furuna, we must first start with his name.

Venerable Fuluna has too many titles and is too long. His original name should be called “Fuluna Midoroniko”. Furuna is just the abbreviation of his name. His name is so long, it just symbolizes that when His Holiness speaks the Dharma, it will grow endlessly. High mountains and flowing water, endless heart, endless kindness, in China, the name of His Holiness means “Mancizi”.

His face, just like his title of a loving son, his round face, between his brows and eyes, is full of the kindness and kindness of an elder.

2. Fruit status after becoming a monk

Fulou has a happy family. Although his wealth cannot be said to be the world’s richest man, he can be regarded as a well-known rich man in India. His parents love him very much, but he feels that the love and wealth in the world will eventually be separated and lost. Therefore, the most important thing in life is to obtain the eternal truth. Therefore, he parted with his love and relatives, converted to the great sage Buddha, and vowed to engage in the promotion of the truth.

The Venerable Puruna, shortly after he became a monk, had already attained Arhatship. Arhat is the highest attainment position among the disciples of the Shravakayana, who can get rid of troubles, be free from life and death, use supernatural powers, and be able to act freely everywhere.

3. The Buddha gave him a prophecy

Once, the Buddha talked about many things related to past lives in a dharma meeting. After hearing this, Fu Luna was very moved. He got up from his seat, straightened his cassock, and walked to the seat of the Buddha. After receiving the Buddha’s feet with his head and face, he looked at the Buddha’s benevolent face devoutly. He felt that the Buddha’s majestic merits could not be praised enough in words. He stroked his heart with both hands, and he thought that the Buddha would understand his deep wish.

Like a heart-to-heart initiation, the Buddha understood Puruna’s thoughts and said: “Puluna! You practice diligently, never slack off, and help me to spread the truth of the universe and life anytime and anywhere. , teaching and benefiting sentient beings, everyone is very happy, you are the most important among Dharma speakers, and after countless asamkhya kalpas, you should become a Buddha in this world, and your name is Faming Tathagata.”

The prophecy given by the Buddha made Fulou feel infinite gratitude, and he bowed solemnly and respectfully to the Buddha, circled around three times to the right, and retreated to his original position, with teardrops of gratitude in his eyes!

Will Fulou become a Buddha in the future? This aroused the envy and amazement of the monks. The holy fruit that Fuluna proved was an arhat, not a Bodhisattva. How could he have received the Buddha’s prophecy for him to become a Buddha?

The surprise of the bhikkhus had long been expected by the Buddha. The Buddha announced to the public: “Bhikkhus! Have you seen that I just gave the prophecy for Fulu Namitroni? Because he is good at preaching, he will definitely be here in the future. To become a Buddha, the Buddha is called Faming Tathagata.

“You should also praise Furuna. I often praise him as the number one among Dharma practitioners. He penetrated into the Buddha’s sea of Dharma and can benefit all fellow practitioners and students of the Tao. Except for the Buddha, no one can be as good as him. Speech disputes.

“Don’t think that Venerable Fuluna is just helping me to preach the Dharma. In fact, he has supported and helped the Buddha to preach the Dharma in the past nine billion Buddhist kingdoms, and he has been praised as the number one Dharma! Follow up with Furuna, who speaks first!”

The Buddha gave Puruna a prophecy, even if a crown of pearls and wreaths were placed on his head, it could not compare with the honor of prophecy, because from then on he would ascend to the position of mentor of human beings and heaven!

4. Future Buddha Kingdom

Fuluna will become a Buddha in the future. I don’t know what his Buddhist country will be like. If it is possible, if fate meets you, after Fuluna becomes a Buddha, everyone can make a vow to practice in his Buddhist country.

The compassionate Buddha understood the hearts of the people, and he told the people in detail: “Puluna became a Buddha, the land has no hills and ravines, no thorns and gravel; all the towers and pavilions are as high as the sky, and the land is gold and silver. Paved by all treasures

“After Fuluna became a Buddha, there were no hells, hungry ghosts, animals, women, let alone lust. People were all metamorphosis, flying freely, without self or place, without weapons, and everyone had their own. Whatever you want, take what you need.

“After Fuluna became a Buddha, the Buddhist country has no racial boundaries, no distinction between strong and weak, no enemies, no enemies, and no trickery, plunder, or occupation. Respect and praise each other!

“That is no longer called the Saha world, it is a good and pure land, just like the land of Amitabha Buddha in the Western Paradise!”

The teachings of the Buddha are completely true. The Buddha never spoke a single false word. Puruna used the Dharma to adorn his pure land. This is the greatest encouragement for those who proclaim the truth of the Buddha!

5. Advisers among monks

Fu Luna is the most enthusiastic about propagating Dharma and evangelizing. He does not seek fame and fortune, and does not hope to be rewarded by profit. He knows that the human world, like the moon in the water and the flowers in the sky, is the best place for him to do the great things of life and death, and to save all beings.

What Fuluna dislikes most is someone who puts on cassock on the surface and converts to the Buddha as a disciple, but in fact what he does is not for the Dharma, but for himself.

The Buddha’s compassion and mighty virtue moved the kings of all India. After they took refuge in the Buddha, they ordered that anyone who had committed an unforgivable sin, as long as he became a monk and took refuge in the Buddha, his sins would be forgiven after he entered the Sangha. Although the Buddha knew that this would turn the pure Sangha into a place where dragons and snakes mixed together, but his compassion was like a boundless sea that could accommodate all the streams, and he couldn’t bear to see sins go unhealed. For this reason, the Buddha also praised the benevolent government of the kings.

In this way, people who did all kinds of evil appeared in the Sangha. They took advantage of the Buddha’s holiness to seek fame and fame, and wanted to make money. Some even started selling Tathagata.

When Puruna saw these nominal monks, he often warned them bluntly: “Everyone! You must not do things that are contrary to the teachings of the Buddha. You must not persuade others to give, but you love to save money privately; tell people the five desires. It will harm your body and mind, but you are happy to accumulate in the vortex of the five desires. It is a rare karma for us to have the savior Buddha as our teacher. Whatever you do, you must not violate the teachings of the Buddha. Violating the precepts stipulated by the Buddha. The most important thing is not to make people lose faith.

“You become monks and learn the Tao. This is a chance for you to repent and eliminate your sins from the Buddha’s mercy. However, you are not willing to win honor for the teaching, you don’t love the Sangha, and you are not enthusiastic about the Buddhist movement that promotes the Dharma and benefits people. Although the Buddha is merciful for a while , but after all, it will not be good for your own future.

“The Buddha often said that people are not afraid of their mistakes, and they can correct their mistakes. They are a real man. In the Buddhist Sangha, it doesn’t matter much to be a mediocre person, but the worst thing is to be a selfish person who doesn’t care about Buddhism, a person who is active regardless of the public.

“I am a teacher and a fellow student with you. I have something to say. It doesn’t matter if you beat me or scold me. As long as the Dharma can prosper and sentient beings can be saved. I hope that from now on, everyone will truly study the Dharma and practice it according to the teaching. ”

Fuluna’s advice touched some monks with bad temperaments. When getting along with others, Fuluna didn’t like to find fault and find trouble for others, but he did completely abandon his personal glory and personal interests. Glory, people who work hard for the benefit of teaching!

Knowing Furuna’s character, the Buddha often praised him as an enlightener and admonisher among his fellow monks.

6. Spread the Dharma to the world

Fu Luna is very calm and prudent in his work. He only expresses his opinions on the people and things in the Sangha after careful consideration. Wei is always so enthusiastic about promoting Dharma and evangelizing. As long as there is an opportunity to sow the seeds of Bodhi, he never cares about personal gains and losses, and is always so diligent and forward.

Among the Buddha’s disciples, there are many disciples who can help the Buddha teach the Dharma, but those who have nothing to ask for, are not afraid of tribulations and setbacks, and are always teaching in the community, but few can compare with Fuluna. Some monks, although they have learned a lot from the Buddha, but they are not passionate enough for the compassion of sentient beings. There are even some monks who are not enthusiastic about the cause of propagating the Dharma and benefiting living beings, but they are climbing to the society, and they are not based on Taoism but friendship. Furuna was very disapproving of them.

One day, Venerable Fuluna passed by the mountains of Kosamira on his way to transformation. In the mountains, there were several monks who lived in seclusion and practiced in seclusion. When Fuluna saw them, he asked them respectfully. Said: “Gentlemen! I have heard that you live here in seclusion and practice Taoism. I admire your noble personality. But you are the envoys of the Buddha’s benevolent order to teach and enlighten all sides. Why don’t you come to the society?” How about going to Purdue sentient beings among the crowd?”

Seeing that it was Fuluna, these monks got up happily and gave up their seats, and replied: “My lord! We have also gone to preach everywhere, but it is too difficult for sentient beings. The Buddha asked us to take the water of nectar. Giving it to them, they thought it was a smelly thing. They are stupid, stubborn, obsessed with the five desires, killing animals and offering sacrifices to gods for blessings, which is actually the cause of evil ways.

It is our compassionate helping hand , They are also unwilling to look back. Your lord! The way of truth is not for everyone, and the world of the Pure Land is not for everyone, so let them go. They have suffered enough, and when the karma is ripe, they will naturally turn back. .”

Fuluna heard the words of these monks and knew that they encountered setbacks and tribulations when they spread the Dharma and preached the teachings, so they were disheartened towards sentient beings and could not muster the enthusiasm for preaching. Fulou said: “I admire your earnestness in cultivating the Tao, but I don’t think so about your concept of spreading the Dharma and saving lives. The Buddha Dharma is easy to spread and all living beings are easy to save.

There is no need for us to do this work; precisely because the five turbidities In this evil world, propagating the Dharma and saving one’s life is a difficult and difficult task. In order to repay the Buddha’s kindness, we should not slack off for a moment to engage in this sacred work.”

“Promoting the Dharma is a housework, and benefiting lives is a career. We Buddhist disciples who become monks should not regard the Sangha as a refuge or a nursing home, thinking that as a monk, as long as we solve the problems of life, we can ignore everything in the world; Before the Dharma is promoted, all living beings are not saved, and you think that you have nothing to do with yourself. This is against the teachings of the Buddha. The Buddha’s compassionate heart and vows must not like everyone’s behavior.

“It is not easy for sentient beings to accept the Dharma, because they are too poor. They are as poor as beggars begging for money. If you donate the wealth of Dharma and Dharma to a poor man who has nothing, how can he not doubt your kindness? He is very concerned about your treasure. How dare you accept it boldly?

“With infinite compassion and full enthusiasm, we should adorn our own pure land on all living beings, fill the world with the joy of the Dharma, and share the Buddha’s light, wisdom, compassion, and mighty virtue with all living beings. , This is the responsibility of our monastic disciples, and we are not allowed to evade it, and we are not allowed to shirk it.

“Everyone!

Buddhism in the Batshua Kingdom has not flourished yet, so let me and you all go there to promote it!”

After listening to these monks, they were deeply moved by the truth of Fuluna’s statement, and they were all willing to follow Fuluna to the country of Bachao.

For some monks who are lazy and greedy for comfort, Puruna often advises them to cheer up and spread the Buddhadharma in the world. Therefore, among the masses, the Buddha often praised Puruna as an encourager and motivator among the bhikkhus!

7. Honghua’s attitude

Fulouna has a bowl of food for thousands of families, and it is popularized in all directions. Thousands of mountains and rivers, thousands of rivers and mountains, life like poetry, life like painting, countless people, because of the propaganda of Fulouna, And know the Buddha, and come into contact with the Buddha’s truth and love.

Fuluna’s life, sometimes in the country of Magadha, sometimes in the country of Kaosamira: one day he was preaching in the city of Vesali, and the next day he went to the city of Kashi to preach. The number of people who were moved by him to believe in the Buddha and convert to the Buddha is no one in the Sangha can compare with him. No matter how stubborn and strong beings are, when they hear his teachings, they will calm down like a mad horse and accept the purification of Buddhism.

What power does he have?

Everyone doesn’t understand.

One day, when some monks were chatting with Puruna, they asked, “My lord! When you preached, even on a desolate grassland, as long as you speak the Dharma, that place will become a solemn holy place; No matter how many listeners there are, if your Dharma sounds are together, they will be quiet, peaceful, and sincere. Except for the Buddha, no one can be as successful as your teaching and teaching. How can you have such mighty power?”

Fu Luna replied modestly and honestly: “I don’t know what power I have. The only thing I know is the teacher Buddha. I have never silently prayed to the Buddha before preaching. I pray that the Buddha’s light will bless me so that I can complete the cause of purifying the human world for the Buddha. I don’t want people to know Furuna, I hope everyone knows the Buddha of the Great Enlightenment. How can I have the power to move people? It is the Buddha who moves people, it is the Buddha teaching of truth.”

Glory to the Buddha, Fuluna’s true words, all the bhikkhus nodded in admiration after listening to them, and they all asked: “My lord! Your life of preaching and spreading is too hard. You neither want to rest, nor do you want to rest. If you refuse to eat better food to nourish your body, in addition to teaching the Dharma, you also have to walk and sit in meditation, so hard, how can your body support it?”

“Thank you for your concern for me,” Fulou nodded his head slightly, and said gently, “We live in the sea of Buddha’s Dharma, and this little bit of practice is hard work. The Buddha’s long-term practice, life-saving, and daily life I don’t know how to describe it when I eat hemp and wheat, and donate to the leaders and brains.”

“After I have taught the Dharma to all beings for a long time, I will return to the seat of the Buddha and listen to the teachings of the Buddha. The nectar of the Buddha is the best nutrient for my wisdom life. Wood, it seems to smile at me; every mountain and river, it seems to comfort me.

The light of the Buddha protects my body, and the solemn Buddha lives in my heart. I don’t know how hard it is. Everyone! When I see When tens of thousands of people turn to the Buddha, put their palms together, and bow to the Buddha, I am often moved to tears of joy. I also fold my palms to the Buddha and bow to the Buddha. I pray that the Buddha will take them in, give them confidence, and give them strength. !”

After hearing what Furuna said, all the monks felt more sincere respect for him, and everyone naturally clasped their hands to him and praised Venerable Puruna.

8. Hometown is everywhere

Fu Lou’s traveling life of preaching the Dharma floated like duckweed in a sea of people, and he had no definite place to live. In the daytime, in the streets, alleys, and squares, follow the trend; at night, sit alone in the mountains, forests, or by the water.

Like clouds, like flowing water, Fulou is home everywhere. Sometimes, in order to make the Dharma permanent, he also initiated the establishment of the lecture hall of the jingshe, but he never regarded the completion of the lecture hall as his own private property. Those who are virtuous live there, and whenever the Vihara is completed, Fuluna will be transferred to another place.

Fuluna does not store gold and silver privately. Apart from three clothes, bowls and utensils, he has nothing else around him. We should not look at the surface or material things. Apart from the material surface, Fulouna has immeasurable merit, wisdom, dharma and wealth. I don’t know how many sentient beings have enriched their lives and accomplished the eternal cause of life because of his Dharma wealth.

Fu Luna never cared about food and clothing, and the three clothes were dyed; while begging for alms, there was no distinction between rich and poor, good or bad, as long as the stomach was full. He didn’t think about supplements, he thought the best supplement was the Buddha’s mantra.

One day, when Puruna was walking in Koli City, he met a layman on the road. The fellow asked him and bowed to him, and said, “My lord! I don’t know what you are busy with? Since you became a monk, I have never seen you go back to your hometown to visit your relatives. Everyone misses you very much. You have been away for so many years, and you have no rural villages or family wealth. Why are you so poor? When can you go back? ”

Fuluna replied very politely: “Thank you, I am so happy to meet you today. You asked me what I am busy with every day, and I am busy with saving sentient beings from suffering and obtaining happiness. This world is full of my In my hometown, there are my relatives everywhere. Now I am a disciple of the great sage Buddha. I don’t want to be their slave, I don’t want to be bound by these unreal things. I like to travel around, Spread the Dharma everywhere, be a messenger of the truth, and pave the way to enlightenment for all sentient beings. Please go back and thank everyone for your concern, Fuluna should also serve them, and you will go back when you go back.”

“My lord! I have been away for so many years. I never imagined that after becoming a monk with the Buddha, you would have such a positive spirit and abundant enthusiasm. You completely forgot yourself and only worked for the benefit of the public. I am deeply impressed! When you returned home, I You must have a grand welcome, and you are welcome to bring the Buddha’s light to our hometown.”

“Thank you, I will definitely fulfill your wishes!”

After Fuluna said that, he hurried to sow the seeds of Bodhi in various places.

9. Method of preaching

Furuna, who is the first to speak, is a great preacher, and he can be good at using the methods of the Buddha’s teaching to all living beings.

“Convenient teaching”, “response to illness and medicine”, “observing opportunities and amusing teachings”, and “harmonizing things and principles”, it can be said that Fuluna has obtained the samadhi of the Buddha’s teachings.

Fuluna knew that the so-called preaching of the Dharma was for the sake of all beings rather than for himself. The Dharma was for all beings, not for himself. The profound and mysterious truths can be thoroughly understood except for a few people with high roots; before the public, Fuluna always said the truths that people can accept.

For different people, it is Fuluna’s specialty to observe the machine and talk about it. When he saw a doctor, he would say to the doctor, “Doctors can heal people’s physical ailments, but can you cure the serious diseases of greed, anger, and ignorance?”

“My lord! Doctors can only treat physical ailments such as headaches, stomach pains, and foot pains. There is no cure for serious mental illnesses. Do you have any solutions?”

“Yes!” Puruna replied affirmatively, “The teachings of the great sage Buddha are like nectar water, which can wash away the dirt in the minds of all living beings. ”

When seeing officials, Fu Luna would ask: “You officials can punish criminals, but is there a way to discipline people from committing crimes?”

“Although there are national laws, the national laws cannot prevent people from committing crimes,” the officials replied.

“In addition to the laws of the country, you and all the people should practice Buddhism. If everyone can believe in the principles of practicing the five precepts and ten virtues, and the law of karma and reincarnation, the world will not commit crimes.”

Because of Fu Luna’s skillful understanding of Dharma, no matter whether he was a doctor or an official, he took refuge in the Three Jewels and believed in Buddhism.

Once, Fu Luna passed a village, and he said to the farmers working in the fields: “You plowing the paddy fields and growing grain can support the physical body. May I teach you how to cultivate the land of blessings to support the wisdom life?”

“What method do you use to plow the blessed land and nourish your life?” asked the farmers

“Believe in Buddhism, serve the Three Jewels, be respectful to the recluses, take care of the sick, be enthusiastic about charity and public welfare, be filial to your parents in the church, hide evil and promote goodness to your neighbors, and don’t kill people indiscriminately. Good method.”

All the farmers put their palms together to ask questions, and everyone was willing to accept Fu Luna’s teachings.

Fu Luna has no fixed residence, and there is no fixed method of preaching. Sometimes he speaks publicly in the open air, sometimes visits his home individually, sometimes sings praises to the Buddha, and sometimes shows his supernatural powers to inspire people’s beliefs. Because of this, the Buddha His teachings are easy for sentient beings to accept.

10. Dharma for King Bimbasara

Fuluna can also use supernatural powers. When King Bimbasara was imprisoned by his son, Fuluna and Moggallana flew into the prison from the air at the benevolent order of the Buddha, and taught the king and taught the eight precepts. .

King Bimbisara was the king of Magadha, and among the kings of India, he was the first to convert to Buddha. Later, Devadatta provoked his prince Ajashi, imprisoned him, did not give him food, and wanted to put him in prison. If he died of starvation, Ajashi could inherit the throne.

King Bimbasara was imprisoned, and Ajashi forbade people to give him food and drink. Although he raised such a disobedient son, he did not resent, and always comforted himself in his heart. This was the cause and fate of the past.

The more he suffered, the more he thought of what the Buddha said: Heaven and earth, the sun and the moon, Sumeru, and the sea, are not subject to constant change; Where there is life there is death, where there is joy there is pain, and where there is joy there is sorrow.

There is no eternal happiness in the world, only suffering is endless.

Although King Bimbisara thought so, he couldn’t let go completely, and was worried about his future life.

Furuna and Moggallana flew from the air into the closed prison, which was gloomy and dark, and the air inside seemed to be dead.

Fuluna sat next to King Binbasara and said in a low voice, “My lord! I am here on the benevolent order of the Buddha. The Buddha told me to tell you that the body affected by karma will always experience suffering. The karma must be settled. The most important thing in cultivating the Tao is to eliminate sins and obtain liberation. People imprisoned in prison seem to have lost their freedom and are bound; in fact, people who have not entered prison are still surrounded by money, fame and , Imprisoned by beauty, the Saha world is like a big prison.

No matter whether you are in prison or not, death is inevitable. Death does not have to be scary. When you are born, you are destined to die. What you need to worry about is what you will go to after death. The place to go. The Buddha said that one must recite the holy name of Amitabha Buddha and make a vow to be reborn in the Western Paradise of Ultimate Bliss, which is a land of freedom and liberation.”

King Bimbisara felt very comforted after hearing Fuluna’s words, as if he saw the light after death. He passed away so peacefully.

For saving sentient beings in suffering, Fu Luna is always inferior to others, and he is very good at preaching.

11. The spirit of evangelism

Puruna did not seek to be respectful or easy to save sentient beings. The more remote and difficult it is for him to teach, the more enthusiastic he was to spread the Buddha’s teachings.

Once, one day after Xia’s residence, Fuluna wanted to go abroad to promote culture again. He asked the Buddha for leave: “Buddha! Please be merciful and allow me to go to the country of Shuluna to preach!”

After hearing what Puruna said, the Buddha was very pleased with his request. But the great evangelist Buddha knew that it was not easy to preach, especially when he went to the country of Suluna. Based on the facts, the Buddha said: “Pulna! To educate all living beings, to benefit yourself and others, I very much approve of your wish. For you I’m also very relieved to go to various places to preach. But I have to tell you that you don’t have to go to the country of Luna for mission, it’s better to choose another diocese, and set off right away, we’ll see you off!”

“Why? Buddha! Wherever there are sentient beings to be saved, can’t you go to preach?”

The Buddha explained: “Furuna! The country of Luna is a remote and small country. Because of inconvenient transportation, underdeveloped culture, and very violent people, beating and scolding has become a custom. People who go to foreign countries can easily lose their lives. Now you Aren’t you afraid of danger if you want to preach in such a place?”

When the Buddha said this, Puruna smiled and expressed his will more firmly and forcefully: “Buddha! I can hardly express my gratitude in words for your compassion and love. But in order to appreciate the kindness of the Buddha, I am more than happy to give you a mere I dedicate everything I have to the Buddha, to the Dharma and to all sentient beings. It is precisely because the Shuluna country is a barbaric country on the border, and no one is determined to educate them, so I feel that I have to go there to preach.

Go there , Dangers will be added to me at any time, but for the promotion of the Fa-rectification, there is really no need to worry about my personal safety. I beseech the Buddha’s mercy and permission, let the light of the Buddha protect me, and allow me to go to open up the pure land of the world!”

The Buddha’s face radiated a kind light, and the Buddha was very happy with Fuluna’s spirit of forgetting his body for the Dharma. But the Buddha saw that there were many disciples on the left and right, and everyone should have the spirit of a missionary, so he asked kindly, “Pulna! You are right! To be a monk disciple of the Buddha, missionary teaching is the most important practice. One, but I want to ask you, if you go to the country of Shuluna to preach, if they refuse to accept your preaching and instead yell at you, what should you do?”

“Buddha! They scolded me, I think they are very good, because after all they are not completely savages, just scolded, never beat me with sticks!” Puruna replied respectfully without thinking.

“Suppose they beat you with fists, stones, and sticks?”

“I still think they are fine,” replied Furuna, “because they only beat me with fists, stones, and sticks, and they haven’t stabbed me with a knife yet.”

“What if they stab you with a stick?”

“I still think they are good, because they still have humanity, and they didn’t beat me to death cruelly.”

“What if they beat you to death?”

“Then I should be even more grateful to them. They killed my body, helped me in my karma, helped me enter Nirvana, and helped me repay the Buddha’s favor with my body. Although this is not a big hindrance to me, unfortunately it is to them It doesn’t do any good.”

The Buddha was overjoyed and praised: “Pulna! You are worthy of being my true disciple. You can cultivate Taoism, preach teachings, and learn patience. Your state of mind can be calm and unruffled. We welcome you on your journey!”

Fuluna was very moved by the Buddha’s encouragement, which strengthened his determination not to retreat from teaching. After paying homage to the Buddha, he went to the country of Shuluna amidst the cheers and farewell of the monks.

12. Missionary in the country of Luna

Fuluna bid farewell to the Buddha and left the Sangha, and walked alone to the northeast of the country of Shuluna, and finally arrived at the country of Shuluna.

The land of Shuluna is barren and the people are poor. There are either high mountains or rivers. There are neither prosperous cities nor densely populated villages. The people still live a life of bare hair and blood.

When Fuluna first came to the country of Shuluna, he could not carry out his education. Although he had already learned the dialect of the country of Shuluna before the future, in addition to the language, he had to have more skills in missionary work. many conditions.

Although the natives of Lunluna had no language barriers to Fuluna, everyone looked at him strangely when they saw him holding a bowl and wearing cassock.

Fu Luna knew that in places with backward culture, without skillful means, it is not easy to inspire their belief in Buddhism. I also know that talking about mystical truths will not be welcomed by the public here. The most important thing is to improve their living problems first. Propagating the Dharma cannot be divorced from people’s lives. Therefore, he did not reveal his identity as a recluse monk for the time being. Like a doctor, he was busy visiting and caring for patients every day.

Fulouna is very caring about simple treatment of patients. No matter how far away the village is, or even crossing a few hills, whenever he hears a patient moaning, Fulouna always turns over regardless of morning or night. If the sick people see him, if they meet a savior, no matter how serious the illness is, they will gradually heal.

Fu Luna is like a teacher, teaching them to read and understand. During the day, Fu Luna taught them the steps of farming and how to manage the house; at night, he gathered them together and talked about the five precepts and ten virtues, and the principles of karma. Soon, the people of Luna country all converted to Buddhism. Fu Luna received 500 disciples there and established 500 Sanghalas.

13. Requirements for missionaries

Fuluna worked hard to promote the Dharma and benefit living beings. He took the Buddha’s instructions on the ten virtues that missionaries should have as his motto and always kept them in his heart. The Buddha said: Teachers should have ten virtues:

  1. Good knowledge of Dharma and morality
  2. Can preach virtue
  3. Virtue of being fearless in public
  4. Eloquence does not hinder virtue
  5. Convenience and cleverness
  6. Follow the law and practice the law and virtue
  7. Full of prestige and virtue
  8. Bravery and Diligence
  9. No tiredness in body and mind10. Achievement

Venerable Puruna, although people spread the teachings everywhere, their hearts are always attached to the Buddha. Every Christmas of the Buddha, or when the Buddha gave lectures at a conference, Fuluna always traveled thousands of miles to return to the seat of the Buddha to listen to the teachings and say hello to the Buddha.

Once, Fuluna crowded in the crowd to bow to the Buddha. When the Buddha saw him, he smiled happily and praised him: “Pulana! You are back! Everyone misses you very much! Are you good? You have worked hard to spread the truth, and you have the spirit of teaching and your own qualities. In terms of spirit, you have established unwavering faith in the Three Jewels, and you have cultivated compassion, calmness, intelligence, and health; In terms of body, you have developed a strong physique, and your conduct, demeanor, voice, and eloquence are also fully equipped. Furuna! I am very relieved that you are preaching in the country of Luna.”

After the Buddha spoke, he paused for a while, and then said to everyone: “Bhikkhus! Among my disciples, Puruna is the number one in Dharma preaching. You should look up to him!”

After hearing this, all the bhikkhus turned their faces to pay respects to Fuluna, praising and congratulating him. On the one hand, Fu Lou felt ashamed, but on the other hand, he seemed to be encouraged even more.

14. Protest against Maha Kassapa

Time is ruthless like running water, and the years rotate with impermanent gears. Spring flowers and autumn moons, summer rains and winter snows, day after day, year after year, the body of the Buddha should be transformed into the Saha world, and gradually grow old. The Buddha is eighty years old. In that year, he entered Nirvana in the city of Kushinagara.

The disciples were very sad. Furuna, who had been taught abroad, heard the news of the Buddha’s Nirvana, and led his disciples to the city of Kushinagara to express their condolences to the Buddha.

When Fuluna led his disciples to the city of Kushinagara, the Buddha’s body had already consecrated him. Apart from being sad, Furuna was most concerned about the teachings of the Buddha. He knew that the teachings of the Buddha were the Dharma body of the Buddha.

After inquiring, he learned that the Theravada monks, led by Maha Kassapa, were presiding over the first sutra gathering on Mount Qijabori. Fuluna rushed to participate overnight. At this time, the assembly was almost completed. Da Kassapa was very happy to see Fuluna, and said to him: “Your lord, you came just in time. Our assembly of the Buddha’s teachings is about to be completed. Now I hope You can agree too.”

After listening carefully to the compilation process, Fu Luna replied: “My lords! You have compiled the Buddha’s teachings, which is very impressive! Regarding the content, I have no objection to most of them. It is difficult for me to agree with the eight things that are prohibited, because this is contrary to the original intention of the Buddha.

“Now you are prohibiting sleeping in, cooking inside, cooking by yourself, taking food by yourself, getting up early and receiving food, eating from others, mixed fruits, and food from pond water. The prohibition of these eight things is very important for the cultivation of the Tao in the Sangha. It is a great inconvenience. When rice is expensive, when there is famine, and when food is hard to come by, the Buddha allows these eight things.”

Da Kasyapa is an authoritative elder in the Sangha. In the past, no one dared to disagree with him. different opinions. After hearing this, Da Kassapa said seriously, “That’s right. The Buddha allowed these eight things, but only under special circumstances.”

In this way, a debate arose between the two sides, but it was not resolved. In the end, it was Fu Luna who gave in and said, “There is no other way. From now on, I can only follow what I have heard from the Buddha, follow my own understanding, abide by it, and keep it forever. ”

After Fuluna said that, he embarked on his trip to Honghua again.

When and where Fuluna passed away, there is still no way to verify it. We only know that Fuluna is still very enthusiastic about promoting it in various places in the religious order after the Buddha’s Nirvana. From the content of his protest against Venerable Mahakassapa, Mahakassapa is more stubborn in the law, while Fulou is more free and convenient.

Venerable Fuluna always thinks about Buddhism and always seeks happiness for the public. Today, when the magic is strong and the law is weak, the enthusiasm and spirit of Venerable Fuluna’s teachings are rare.
