Is Houbowang Winery also called Hongyanrong Winery?

Château Hongyanrong (also known as Obiang, Haubourg) is one of the oldest wineries in Bordeaux, surrounded by vineyards 480 years ago. With the urbanization brought about by the European Industrial Revolution, how many vineyards disappeared in the expansion of the city of Bordeaux, Obiang remained.

Because Chateau Obiang is the closest to the city of Bordeaux, the grapes have always ripened early in history, marking the beginning of the Bordeaux grape harvest season with the first grapes to be picked. The style of Obiang is different from that of Médoc. The aroma of the new wine is rich and complex, and the taste is soft and pure; the old wine has a pleasant aroma, silky texture, delicate and elegant, which is admirable. Historically, it has been known for its consistent high-quality wines.

Introduction of the winery

The Obiang winery is the smallest among the “Big Five” in Bordeaux (the five largest estates: Lafite, Latour, Marco, Mouton, Obiang), but it is the first to become famous. On April 23, 1525, Jeanne de Bellon, the daughter of the mayor of Libourne, married Jean de Pontac, clerk of the “Parliament” court of Bordeaux, with a dowry of A piece of land in Pessac known as “Huat-Brion”, this day is used as the birth day of Chateau Obiang. In 1533, Jean de Portac bought the Obiang mansion with surrounding annexes. In 1549 he started building the château, which is now the northeastern part of the winery.

A century later, High and Mighty Lord Arnaud III de Pontac took over the estate. He then became the first president of the Bordeaux City Council. In the era of Arnold III, the winery not only doubled in size, but was also known for its luxurious decoration. Carpet presented by the Queen Mother, ornate furniture, gold leaf decoration.

Because of the unique geographical location of Chateau Haut-Brion, ChateauHaut-Brion’s original standard Melot is as high as 40%, which makes Obiang very distinct from other first-class wineries. The wine is more elegant, Warm, rich in layers, complex and timeless aftertaste. Perhaps, tasting the five famous wineries at the same time, it is not what you like when you drink it for the first time, but it is what you like to drink all the time.

It is worth mentioning that Obiang is the only winery with a genuine dry white among the five wineries. ChateauHaut-BrionBlanc is made with 65% Sauvignon Blanc and 35% Semillon. There is no doubt about the ability to age for more than 10 years, just like the Sauternes dessert wines made with 100% Semillon, they also have a strong ageing ability. Jean-Philippe said that they just opened a bottle of 1968 Obiang dry white last year, and it is still fragrant. Although the aged fruit aroma has been lost, the wine exudes the old wine’s honest aroma of verbena, toast, beeswax and so on. , amazing.

History

While grapes are generally believed to have been cultivated since Roman times, there is actually documented evidence that the earliest dates for vines were 1423. The record of Château Haut-Brion is in 1525, when Jeanne de Bellon married Jean de Pontac with a dowry.

Chateau Haut-Brion was the first recorded import of the top five wineries to the United States. Thomas Jefferson bought 6 cases while traveling in France and sent them back to his estate in Virginia.

Famous owners have been running Chateau Haubourg for more than 4 centuries, including: Commander of the French Navy, Bishop of the Region, Marshal of France, Chief of Guyenne, Napoleon’s Foreign Minister Charles Maurice De Talleyrand-Périgord and C. Douglas Dillon, the U.S. ambassador to France under John Kennedy.

The current owner is Duchesse de Mouchy, granddaughter of American banker Clarence Dillon and chairman of Domaine Clarence Limited. Haut-Brion is the only one of the five wineries that is owned by an American.

In 1960, Haut-Brion Winery was the first winery to use the revolutionary stainless steel vat fermentation technology.
