New Chitose Airport is an international airport located 2.7 NM south-southeast of Chitose and Tomakomai, Hokkaidō, Japan, serving the Sapporo metropolitan area. By land area, it is the largest airport in Hokkaidō. Chitose Airport is one of the first seaports. Japan is the gateway to foreign trade. Over 150 years ago, it was the third largest city in the island and at the southern end of Hokkaido.

Flights to Hokkaido. The most common way for international tourists to travel to Hokkaido is to fly into New Chitose Airport (Sapporo). This is the closest airport to the very popular Niseko ski resort, and most visitors to other Hokkaido ski resorts also use Sapporo as the gateway airport.
