History

Fukuoka is sometimes referred to as Daizaifu Port (大宰府). Daizaifu was the administrative center in 663, but historians argue that this central area It has existed since prehistoric times[2]. Ancient records such as Kojiki and Kanen, as well as archaeological evidence, indicate that This area was a very important place in the founding of Japan. Some scholars claim that this site was the first emperor’s settlement. as well as many other Japanese origin theories.

Mongol invasion

Kublai Khan of the Mongol Empire (Yuan dynasty) was focused and interested in the Japanese islands that were closed countries. He began preparations in 1266, thinking that Japan was inexperienced with the outside world. Therefore sent an envoy to Japan to accept the power of the Mongols. Japan at that time was ruled by the Hojo family. who is the shogunate of the Kamakura shogun government Hojo refused to go back. Kublai Khan sent the envoy back again in 1268, this time Hojo refused and executed the envoy.

In 1274, Kublai Khan sent 900 warships with 33,000 troops into the northern part of Kyushu. Some of these were soldiers from the Mongol Tributary State of Koryo. The first offensive failed by a typhoon. The Mongol-Goryeo division lost almost all of its troops.

After the defeat of the first invasion Kublai Khan sent another ambassador for the third time in 1279, where Hojo had them beheaded as before. In 1281, Kublai Khan sent 4,400 warships with 140,000 men to invade Fukuoka. But Japan itself is well prepared. After only two battles and there was no sign of any side failing. The typhoon hit Kyushu for two days. almost completely destroyed the Mongol fleet More than 100,000 Mongol and Goryeo soldiers died at sea.

The storms that occurred during the two invasions led Japan to name this typhoon Kamikaze (wind of the gods).
