The Truth about the Curse of the Egyptian Pharaoh

Pharaoh (Catholic translation: Franc). It is the honorific title of the king of ancient Egypt and also a mysterious name. It is the transliteration of Hebrew in Egyptian, and its hieroglyphic writing means big house.

In the era of the Old Kingdom (about 2686-2181 BC), it only refers to the palace, not the king himself. From the eighteenth dynasty of the New Kingdom, Thutmose III, it began to be used for the king himself, and gradually evolved into a respectful title for the king. After the 22nd Dynasty (945-730 BC), it became the official title of the king. It is customary to refer to the kings of ancient Egypt as pharaohs. As an autocratic monarch of slavery, Pharaoh held military, judicial, and religious power throughout the country.

His will was the law, and he was the supreme ruler of ancient Egypt. Pharaoh claimed to be the son of the sun god Amon, the agent and incarnation of the god on earth, and made his subjects worship him as a god.

Status

Standing at the top of the power pyramid, the pharaoh is the incarnation of the god and has absolute power. The ancient Egyptians worshiped the pharaoh almost crazy, just the name of the pharaoh has an irresistible magic, officials are proud of kissing the pharaoh’s feet.

The symbol

The symbols of Egyptian Pharaoh’s privilege mainly include:

1. Crown. There are 5 types:

Red Crown: Symbol of Lower Egypt (Northern Egypt);

White Crown: Symbol of Upper Egypt (Southern Egypt);

The double crown: a symbol of the unity of Upper and Lower Egypt;

“Ataifu” crown: a crown used in religious ceremonies;

Blue Crown: It is related to war. For example, Ramses II often wears this crown in battlefield reliefs.

2. Headgear.

The most common is the “Nimes” headdress, that of the great Sphinx of Giza.

3. Scepter.

“Heka” Rod: This symbol means “ruler” in ancient Egyptian script.

The “flail” rod: Usually used with the “heka” rod, it was the scepter held by the dead pharaoh.

Related examples

Several cursing inscriptions of Tutankhamun have been found in Tutankhamun’s tomb, one of which reads: “Whoever disturbs the Pharaoh’s sleep, the god of death will spread his wings and descend on his head.” Another one reads “Anyone who enters this tomb with an impure heart, I will strangle his neck like a bird.” When the door of the youngest pharaoh’s tomb was opened, mystery followed. First, Carter’s favorite canary was swallowed by a cobra. Count Carnarvon subsequently died of an unknown disease transmitted by a mosquito bite. The bite site was exactly where the scar on Tutankhamun’s face was.

When Hawass, chairman of the Supreme Council of Egyptian Antiquities, performed a CT scan on the mummy in the tomb of Tutankhamun, a series of incredible things also occurred. According to the report of Egypt’s “Izvestia”, at that time, the Valley of the Kings was very windy, and the advanced equipment just bought from the United States failed for an hour and a half for no reason. The report said that Hawass did not believe in the “curse of the pharaoh.” He also comforted the staff and said, “Don’t be afraid, it will not be the curse of the pharaoh.”

Scientific theory

There are many similar things that can be cited, and people can’t help but ask: How did these people die, and what happened to Pharaoh’s curse? Some people think that the ancient Egyptians may have used viruses to deal with tomb robbers. In 1963, Izetin Tayi, a professor of medicine at Cairo University, published an article saying that according to his experience with many archaeologists, these people all had a virus that could cause respiratory inflammation. He believed that the people who entered the pharaoh’s tomb were infected with this virus and died of pneumonia.

In 1983, French female doctor Philippe put forward another opinion. She believes that the deadly thing is not the virus but the mold. Because there are many foods in the pharaoh’s funeral, it has been corrupted for a long time, and a lot of mold dust is formed in the tomb. Those who enter the tomb will inevitably inhale the dust, which will lead to lung infection and painful death.
