Damascus University, located in Damascus, the capital of Syria in the Arabian Peninsula country, is a famous comprehensive university, the leader of higher education in Syria, and the six universities with the longest history in Syria. comparable to universities.

Known as the mother of the Syrian University, it is named because the school is located in Damascus, the capital of Syria. Damascus University plays an important role in language publishing and standard setting. The school has 13 departments and 71 majors including the Department of Islamic Studies. The teachers are basically Syrians who graduated from famous foreign universities with doctorates and have specialties or monographs. Examination and graduation system is very strict.

School History

In 1903, the Faculty of Pharmacology of Damascus University was established, which is the predecessor of Damascus University. In 1919 the Faculty of Law and Faculty of Medicine were rebuilt in Damascus and Arabic became the designated language. It was not until 1923 that the two colleges belonged to the Syrian Ministry of Higher Education as separate units and were merged to be called the Syrian University. In 1946, the Syrian University established 4 new departments in Aleppo, namely the Department of Science, the Department of Literature, the Department of Education and Engineering, the Islamic Department of Law was established in 1955, and in 1958 the Syrian University was renamed the University of Damascus.

In the same year, in 1958, Damascus University added the Department of Dentistry, and the business major was separated from the Department of Medicine to become an independent Department of Pharmacy. In 1963, five art departments and agriculture departments managed by the former Ministry of Education were placed under the umbrella of Damascus University. In addition, in 1971 the technical college of the former Ministry of Education became a department of Damascus University. Damascus University has 13 faculties and 5 faculties.

In the field of academia, the development of Damascus University has been given the highest priority, which has allowed Damascus University to establish its position as the leader of the Syrian education scene.

Faculty Introduction

Damascus University has 15 faculties: Faculty of Arts, Faculty of Humanities, Faculty of Agriculture, Faculty of Economics, Faculty of Civil Engineering, Faculty of Education, Faculty of Architecture, Faculty of Law, Islamic Faculty, Faculty of Dentistry, Faculty of Medicine, Faculty of Medicine, Faculty of Information, Faculty of Science , School of Mechanical and Electronic Engineering. 8 affiliated hospitals, 1 nursing school and 7 language centers. Undergraduate (bachelor’s) study is generally 4-6 years.

The Department of Agronomy in Damascus consists of five majors: Crops, Animals, Soil and Crop Food, and Food Science and Crop Protection. Particular emphasis is placed on research in pest control, weed control and soil science (including the use of fertilizers).

The engineering department is divided into civil engineering and architecture, and civil engineering includes basic science, water conservancy and electric power. The architecture includes majors in Architectural Engineering and Public Building Engineering.

The Department of Electronic and Mechanical Engineering was formerly the Faculty of Technology of the Ministry of Education. In 1971 it became a department of Damascus University. Mechanical work is divided into internal combustion engines, heating, refrigeration engineering, air conditioning, hydraulic control and production engineering. Electronic Engineering includes Power Plant Systems and Electronic Engineering majors.

The Department of Science has majors in mathematics, physics, chemistry, plants, animals and geology.

Mathematics majors focus on analysis of real and imaginary numbers, inequalities, differential equations, mechanics, algebraic and abstract analysis, fluid mechanics, celestial mechanics, mathematical statistics, and probability theory. Physics includes mechanics and vibrations, electricity and electronics, optics and spectroscopy, thermodynamics and statistical physics, quantum mechanics, solid state and atomic physics, nuclear and microparticle physics, nuclear technology, atomic thermodynamics and radiation, and practical applied meteorology study.

Chemistry includes radiation chemistry, structural chemistry and crystallography, chemistry and biochemistry, colloidal and micromolecular chemistry, industrial organic and inorganic chemistry, petrochemistry and fuels, chemical processes and mineralogy, and other branches of chemistry. The Geology major studies structural geology, mineralogy, petrography, paleontology and geochemistry and geophysics.

Zoology majors focus on genetics and evolution, histology and comparative anatomy and animal nervous system and perception, parasitology, taxonomy, embryology, and developmental biology. Botany experts study angiosperms and plant geography, genetics and morphogenesis, microbiology and biochemical enzymology, plant ecology, and plant taxonomy. Science majors also offer all medical pre-university courses, which are in demand for those entering dentistry and pharmacy.
