Ten Great Disciples of the Buddha Mean
A group of ten of the Buddha’s most famous disciples whose names are constantly mentioned in Mahāyāna sūtras.
The ten are:
(1) Mahākāśyapa,
(2) Ānanda,
(3) Śāriputra,
(4) Subhūti,
(5) P,
(6) Mahāmaudgalyāyana,
(7) Mahākatyāyana,
(8) Aniruddha,
(9) Upāli,
(10) Rāhula.
The first two are regarded by the Ch’an tradition as its first two Indian patriarchs.
There are 10 Great Disciples of Lord Buddha who carried his teachings, and dharma and had spread Buddhism far wider. They are Sariputra, Moggallana, Mahakasyapa, Subhuti, Purna, Katyayana, Anuradha, Upali, Rahula and Ananda.
