This place is situated about 60 kms away from Guwahati, Pabitora Wildlife Sanctuary is easily accessible via air, rail, and road. Pabitora Wildlife Sanctuary got its status of a reserve forest in 1971. The main reason was the dwindling number of Rhinos in the area before 1971. This sanctuary has a flat land coupled with a gentle inclination in the direction of east to west, excluding the region of Burha-Mayong hillock.

This place would charm you with its various categories of deer, apart from its steady count of Rhinos. Some wetlands of Pabitora Wildlife Sanctuary like the regions of Chitalmari, Tamuliduba and Dholi have become significant locations for Ferruginous Duck. These species generally visit this place annually.

A popular wildlife sanctuary of Assam, Pobitara Wildlife Sanctuary is specially known for its dense population of one-horned rhinoceros. This also is an important bird area and is home to not less than 2000 migratory birds and a variety of reptiles. Here you can easily spot leopard, barking deer, wild buffalo and indeed a vast variety of animals and birds.
