Introduction to the Medoc region of France

Médoc is one of the most important producing areas in the Bordeaux region. It is located on the left bank of the Gironde River in the north of Bordeaux and extends for about 80 kilometers to the north. It is located in the northwest of the Bordeaux region.

It is sandy and cobblestone, and the subsoil is reddish brown iron-bearing soil, and the planting area reaches 5,652 hectares. Due to the different terrain, the Médoc is divided into Haut-Médoc in the south and Médoc in the north. Since the 18th century, the Médoc has been the most prominent and prestigious wine-producing region in the Bordeaux region.

The Médoc private collection is one of the private collections of the French Schroeder Schiller company with a three-hundred-year history of wine merchants, which is known for its strict quality. Schroeder & Schiller is one of the largest and oldest wine merchants in Bordeaux. It started in 1739 and has a history of nearly 300 years. It is one of eight French companies spanning two centuries. A reputation for pursuing the best quality.

In 1739, under Louis XV, the Schroeder & Schiller Company (Schroeder & Schiller) was established in Bordeaux. The founders of the company are two good friends, Johan Heinrich Schüml;ler and Jacob Schröder, who come from the Hanseatic cities of Hamburg and Lübeck in northern Germany, which have a strong tradition of business and trade. At the end of the 19th century, Schroeder & Schiller acquired the exclusive rights to several wines of Château Lafite (Pauillac), which were rated First Class in the 1855 classification.

After the 1982 vintage was discovered by Robert Parker (a famous wine critic), the reputation of the wine has spread far and wide. In June 1986, the Schÿler family received a private visit from Queen Margrethe II of Denmark in Château Kirwan. The Queen came for a visit at the invitation of Jean Henri Schömler, who later became President of the company and Honorary Consul of the Kingdom of Denmark in Bordeaux.

In 2000, Schröder&Schÿler company vigorously expanded the market, 75% of the wine was sold abroad. At the same time a new field of trade has been formed: the Middle East and some Arab countries, these regions are creating a lot of wealth.

Main grape varieties

Cabernet Sauvignon has a very outstanding performance in Médoc. Although Cabernet Sauvignon is widely planted in many places, it can be said that Cabernet Sauvignon is specially born for Médoc. The Cabernet Sauvignon is elegant, deep red in color, rich in tannins, and known for subtle spice, violet and cedar aromas, and at the same time, the wines are firm-bodied and have the potential to age.

Another important variety in the Médoc is Merlot , which gives the wine a rounded mouthfeel, elegant structure, supple tannins and rich fruit aromas, adding a touch of approachability to the wine.

Even though Cabemet Franc, Petit Verdot, Malbec and Carmencre are relatively small in the Médoc, they are also important varieties of the Médoc, Cabernet Franc is suitable for growing in warm soil and can reach a very ideal maturity, brewing alcohol, with soft acidity, and has good aging potential; small taste is the latest in Médoc Variety that shapes the wine’s strong body, wonderful colour and premium aroma.
