Silver and Singing Folktales
Author: Anonymous
Once upon a time, there was a rich man. His land was as big as the blue sky, his cattle and sheep could cover three hills, his houses were as gorgeous as colorful paintings, and his money was countless. However, he was thinking about how to bankrupt others and make himself even richer from morning to night, making him unable to eat during the day, unable to sleep at night, and as thin as an old monkey in the Gongbu Forest.
Next door to him is a small water mill, and there lives a girl who guards the water mill. This girl’s life was extremely difficult. She only had one spoonful of tsampa noodles every morning, one spoonful of tsampa noodles at noon, and one bowl of tsampa soup at night. What he was wearing was more like a piece of rag to cover his shame than clothes, and his shoes were patched to patch. But she kept singing from morning to night every day. Sometimes she sang happy songs, sometimes she sang melancholy songs, sometimes she sang some long narrative songs, and sometimes she danced lightly.
The rich man looked at it and thought it was strange. He thought: “Oh my God! This girl has nothing to eat and nothing to wear. Why is she always singing like a cuckoo no matter what day or night, spring, summer, autumn or winter? And I, money is piled up like a hill. , you can’t use it up in several lifetimes, but you are always sad and worried? Does money have anything to do with singing? ”
One day, he saw the girl going out to move highland barley, so he quietly slipped into the water mill, took out a piece of horseshoe silver from his arms, and placed it on the millstone. Soon, the girl came in carrying Qingqi Barley on her back. When she saw such a big piece of silver, she felt happy and scared at the same time. Seeing that there was no one around, she hurriedly hid it in her arms.
From then on, the girl was in a trance and restless all day long, and her tireless singing could no longer be heard.
Seeing this situation, the rich man sighed and said, “Oh, the money and the singing seem to have different tempers!”
