Mikunigaoka Station (三国ヶ丘駅 (Nankai) / 三国ケ丘駅 (JR West), Mikunigaoka-eki) is a junction railway station located in Sakai-ku, Sakai, Osaka, Japan. It is jointly operated by the West Japan Railway Company (JR West) and the private railway operator Nankai Electric Railway.
Information around the station
In December 1940, Nankai Railway and Hanwa Electric Railway merged, and Hanwa Electric Railway became the Nankai Yamanote Line (now JR Hanwa Line). Two years later, the station opened as a connecting station between the same line and the Koya line. Nintokuryo Kofun, located on the west side of the station, is the largest keyhole-shaped burial mound in Japan.
The mound has a total length of about 486 meters and a front width of about 305 meters, and is known as one of the world’s three major tombs, along with the Pyramid of Khufu in Egypt and the Mausoleum of the First Qin Emperor in China. On the south side of the burial mound is Daisen Park, which has various facilities such as the Pagoda of Peace, an urban greening center, a Japanese garden, and the Sakai City Museum.
