Romance of the Boobs River
Author: Anonymous
The Sixth Dalai Lama Tsangyang Gyatso was an outstanding poet and an “unorthodox” lama in the eyes of “orthodox” people. Therefore, fate caused him to pass away prematurely. After he passed away, the seventh Dalai Lama was reincarnated in Litang.
This is based on a poem by the sixth Dalai Lama: “A white crane, please lend me your wings. Don’t go to far away places, just wander around.” Litang will return soon.”
Unexpectedly, this almost lyrical poem became the secret verse for his reincarnation in the human world.
When he was reincarnated in Litang, he added a poem praising Litang, “Although Litang is a place of poverty and beggars, the Buddha Lama was born here.” The newly born little Buddha was born with supernatural powers.
According to the fact that Lhasa Khan designated the reincarnation of the sixth Dalai Lama as his legitimate child at that time, he sent people to harm the real Dalai Lama. The young Dalai Lama was taken by his mother to escape the disaster and moved to Zhongdian.
The mother and son live at the foot of “Kari” mountain, the source of Naizi River. Every morning, when his mother lit the fire, curls of green smoke drifted straight towards Songzanlin Monastery. At this time, the little soul boy said: “That’s my temple over there.”
When the soul boy and his son lived here, shepherds often offered fresh milk. The lama only drank half a bowl of milk each time and poured half the bowl of milk into the river. As a result, the whole river became milky white like milk, and the name “Milk River” was also named name.
One night, Songzanlin Temple received an order to harm the lama and his son. The abbot of the temple knew that the mother and son were extraordinary and should be protected, so he sent a message to the soul boy when he entered samadhi at night.
Early the next morning, the soul boy said to his mother: “Today a group of people will come with great force. If the leader asks you if your son is the reincarnation of the Living Buddha? Just answer them: How can a beggar woman give birth to the reincarnation of the Living Buddha?” “.
As expected, when the sun had just risen, the abbot led a team of people to the residence of the soul boy and his son, and asked aggressively: “Is your son a reincarnated soul boy?” The soul boy’s mother replied: “I am a beggar woman. , how could it be possible to give birth to a reincarnated living Buddha?”
The abbot cursed: “Bah! Beggar woman, get out of here quickly!” At the same time, he threw a ball of tsampa into the arms of the soul boy’s mother and walked away.
This ball of tsampa contained some silver coins. It was the abbot who secretly helped the Dalai Lama and his mother to leave here. As for the dignitaries in Tibet, they said that there was no trace of the reincarnated soul boy here, so they could just deal with it for the time being.
Later, with the help of the monks and laypeople of Songzanlin Temple in Zhongdian, the soul boy, mother and son moved to Kumbum Monastery in Qinghai.
It was a cloudy and rainy day. The Khenpo of Kumbum Monastery, an eminent monk who practiced Taoism, became irritated by the cry of a child outside the wall. He asked the housekeeper to take something out and send the child away from crying at the wall.
After the housekeeper went out, he came back and reported that the child didn’t want anything but wanted to come into the house. Khenpo had no choice but to allow the child to enter the house. Unexpectedly, the child became very close to Khenpo as soon as he entered the house.
After entering the hall, the child asked Khenpo to give him the sealed wooden bowl on the table. Khenpo only said, “Strange, strange!”
At the child’s request, he took off the sealed wooden bowl and handed it to the child. The child opened the mouth of the wooden bowl and drank the milk inside.
This milk was filled by the Dalai Lama himself in the previous life and he sealed the wooden bowl like bread. Being opened and drank by this child today means that this child is extraordinary and must be the reincarnation of the Sixth Dalai Lama.
Therefore, after reporting to the Qing government, he set off from Kumbum Monastery. Under the protection of the Qing army and the monks of Kumbum Monastery, the seventh Dalai Lama went to Lhasa to be enthroned and took his rightful place.
The seventh Dalai Lama could not forget the contribution that Zhongdian monks and laymen made to him. After he took control of the political and religious power, he gave greater rewards to Zhongdian. He built a new “Tsongkhapa Golden Tile Hall” for Songzanlin Monastery, and gave Litang a long-lasting youth science.
When Er Temple made the reward gifts, it also made the same number of copies for Zhongdian Songzanlin Temple. “The Biography of the Seventh Dalai Lama” records many deeds of Zhongdian Songzanlin. The so-called Dharma relationship between the Seventh Dalai Lama and the monks and laymen in Zhongdian is a story that will last forever!
