A Probe into the Location of Suiren’s Burial

The burial place of Suiren is located 1.5 kilometers southwest of the ancient city of Shangqiu, Shangqiu City today. There is a tall mausoleum, the Mausoleum of Emperor Sui.
According to ancient books such as “Han Feizi” and “Taiping Yulan”, in ancient times, people used to eat raw food and drink blood. Raw food is foul smelling, hurts the stomach and is prone to disease.
Later, people found that fire-cooked food was delicious and easy to digest. However, natural fires caused by lightning strikes are rare and extinguished in a short period of time, so it is difficult for people to obtain and retain fire.
At that time, a sage was inspired by the sparks that appeared when the bird pecking the flint wood, so he broke off the branches of the flint wood and drilled the wood to make fire. He taught this method to people. Since then, human beings have learned to make fire artificially, using fire to bake food, illuminate, heat, smelt, etc., and human life has entered a new stage.
People called this sage Sui Renshi, and regarded him as “the head of the three emperors”. Shangqiu has another theory about the Suiren’s fire. In ancient times, the area around Shangqiu was a forest.
The Sui Renshi, who live in the mountains and forests, often prey on wild animals, and sparks are often produced when the rocks that hit the wild animals collide with the rocks. Sui Renshi was inspired by this, so he hit a stone with a stone, and used the sparks to ignite the tinder to create a fire.
This method of making fire was still used in rural Shangqiu thirty years ago. In recent years, the government has not only renovated the Suiren’s Mausoleum, but also expanded the cemetery, erected various stone carvings, and planted flowers and trees, making the cemetery a landscape worth visiting.
Later, for the convenience of eating, people found that the food cooked by fire was delicious and easy to digest. However, because natural fires such as lightning strikes are rare and extinguish in a short period of time, it is difficult for people to obtain and retain fire.
