Carl Gustav Jung was a Swiss psychiatrist and psychoanalyst who founded analytical psychology. Jung’s work has been influential in the fields of psychiatry, anthropology, archaeology, literature, philosophy, psychology, and religious studies.

The famous psychologist Jung was born

Carl Jung, a pioneer in psychiatry, was born in Keswil, Switzerland on July 26, 1875. Jung, a famous Swiss psychologist, worked with Sigmund Freud to develop and popularize the theory of psychoanalysis for 6 years, and then parted ways due to disagreement. Jung put forward the concept of “complex”, which divided personality into two types: introversion and extroversion, and matched with four functional types of thinking, emotion, feeling and intuition.

He also went to Africa and the Americas to investigate the psychology of primitive humans and put forward the important psychological concept of the collective subconscious, whose theories and thoughts still have a profound impact on psychological research. Representative works include “Man and Its Symbols”, “Unconscious Psychology Research” and so on.

Jung was born in a priest family. Influenced by his family, Jung was very withdrawn since he was a child. In 1895, Jung entered the University of Basel to major in medicine. In December 1900, he became an assistant physician at the Burgoldsli Psychiatric Hospital in Zurich, where he came into contact with Freud’s theories of psychoanalysis. In 1905, Jung was promoted to lecturer in psychiatry at the University of Zurich, where he lectured on psychopsychology, as well as Freud’s psychoanalysis and primitive psychology.

In March 1907, Jung and Freud met and cooperated deeply. In 1912, Jung published A Study in the Psychology of the Unconscious, which marked his complete break with Freud. In 1921 Jung published “Psychological Types”, which made his popularity in the field of psychology rapidly increase. On June 6, 1961, Jung passed away peacefully at his home on the lake at the age of 86.
