121299 Chiang Kai-Shek Memorial Hall is Historical landmark in Taipei, Taiwan

Chiang Kai-Shek Memorial Hall is a large four-sided white building that stands in the Zhongzheng area of Taipei. The roof is blue which is designed from the Fah Thian base in Beijing with the upper part being a pyramid-shaped and having a spacious garden surrounded by various kinds of trees and pond. Thus making this place as a main recreation place for another town. This memorial was built to commemorate the former President of Chiang Kai-shek and took about 3 years to build. The hall was build completed in year 1980 with an area of 205 hundred thousand square meters.

The building of the monument is white and have blue color tiled on the roof. There are 3 flower gardens in the same color as the flag of Taiwan that represent to the sky, the sun and flesh that were a symbol of freedom with equality and fraternity. When walking straight into the main building you will see that the building has a turquoise octagonal roof cut to the building with pure white color. The statue of Chiang Kai-shek in the posture sitting in a traditional Chinese costume. This statue is made of large bronze gold.

The bottom of the building is a museum that displays the history of Chiang Kai-shek and history of Taiwan’s development. Taiwanese people realized that is the importance of Chiang Kai-shek checking whether this person deserves true praise. If he was just a refugee from mainland China along with bring different new ideas and then came to live in Taiwan Island. Because before Chiang Kai-shek took refuge to this island has many native inhabitants and he come to change. Therefore this place was renamed of The National Taiwan Democracy Memorial Hall. In the exhibition room have divided into 6 zones. Each zone will tell the story from the history of the family of the power to become the first president of Taiwan.

First exhibition is telling about the history of Jiang’s birth. Jiang’s family image including the way of life of Jiang which is quite simple.

The second room exhibition is telling about the history of his power by starting from being a military leader before take place.

The Third room exhibition is recounting of the period of Jiang was in China’s military leader and fight against the invasion of Japan during World War II. At that time, Jiang was also the leader and governing authority in mainland of China.

The fourth room exhibition is mentioning that he had met more than 2 million people from mainland of China to Taiwan. Because of the defeat during the war on communism with Mao Zetung as the leader. During he moved the people and he brought the treasure of the Chinese emperor in many royal boxes, packed with wooden crates, well preserved in here. With over 20 junk boats moved to Taiwan.

The Fifth Room Exhibition will explain on the step towards becoming the highest leader of Taiwan. In those days, America had fully backed to the Taiwan government in the war and against communism that was spread to many countries in Asia.

The last room exhibition is how the work atmosphere of Jiang’s office which has a wax statue of Mr. Jiang sitting and welcoming guests to visit this exhibition room.

In front of the Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall that there are two large buildings set in front of both the right and left. Its namely the National Theater and the National Concert Hall. The surrounding area has a park where Taipei residents can exercise and can breathe fresh air.

  • Take the MRT to Chiang Kai-Shek Memorial Hall and exit Exit 5.
