There are a number of temples throughout Chiang Rai Province, especially in the town where the temples are more spectacular. Chiang Rai officials, therefore, manage a tourism campaign for tourists to worship the nine temples in Chiang Rai by tricycle, called Samlor Phor Wat. The tourists can fully enjoy spending less than half day visiting the auspicious temples by taking tricycle. The nine temples are Wat Phra That Doi Chom Thong, Wat Ngam Muang, Wat Phra Kaew, Wat Mung Muang, Wat Ming Muang, Wat Klang Wiang, Wat Phra Singh, Wat Sri Kerd, and Wat Sriboonruang, the last temple in this auspicious route.
Wat Sriboonruang is situated on Singhaklai Road, on the same route with the other temples mentioned above. This ancient temple was built around 1439 A.D. Later, it became deserted and dilapidated. It was renovated when Khum Chao Luang turned into Damrongratsongkroh School because the principal Buddha image and other objects were moved from Wat Chiang Man, formerly in Khum Luang. At present, the temple is granted Wisung Khama Sima since February 1, 1946. It is available to visit during normal official time free of charge. Inside the temple are gorgeous Lanna-style architectures, including chapel, teaching hall, monk’s cell, refectory, belfry, and pavilion. In addition, there are Sriboonruang noodle shop and famous Chiang Mai’s boiled rice shop near the temple. The tourists can enjoy eating delicious food while wandering around the temple. They can also go further to visit a local museum behind the temple.
Those who are interested in Samlor Phor Wat campaign can either take the tricycle in front of Dusit Island Resort Chiang Rai Hotel or call the tricycle agent to pick up at their hotel. Tricycle service is available throughout the year.
