Lisbon and Faro of Portugal

Lisbon one of the Iberian peninsula’s oldest cities, is a place where history is hidden in every corner. Strolling through Alfama, the oldest district of Lisbon, is like stepping back in time. You can climb the slithery pebbled streets, worn smooth by the feet of countless travellers, up to Castelo de S. Jorge, which dates back to 2nd century BC. It also offers some of the most beautiful views of the city, including the statue of Christ the King, located at Santuario de Cristo Rei in Almada, visible on the far bank of the River Tejo. If you crave more panoramic views of the old city, try taking the Santa Justa Lift, a 19th century elevator in Baixa.
Lisbon’s shopping district, or take a train along the Atlantic coast to Belem to visit Belem Tower, Discovery Monument and Jeronimos Monastery. Do not miss Pasteis de Nata, the famous Portuguese egg tart pastry which is sold near the monastery, before ending your day in Bairro Alto, where you can enjoy Lisbon’s vibrant nightlife.
From Lisbon, travel further down to Faro, the southern most Portuguese city whose historical charm nestles amid the natural beauty of the region. Be thrilled by the sight of the macabre bone church at Igreja do Carmo, make a visit to the neo-classical gate of Arco da Vila in the Moorish city wall and discover the Portuguese nightlife at Rua do Prior.
