1. Speech to Taiwan with my brother
In the monkey food village of the Avanti country in South India, there lived a wealthy family who belonged to the Brahmin race and was generally respected by the people at that time.
Venerable Kajanyan was born in this Brahmin family. His father was the national teacher worshiped by the king at that time. His family owned a vast land, had hundreds of servants, was powerful and rich, and was the leading family in the country.
Venerable Kajanyan, whose name was originally Narada, was the second child of the Brahman national teacher. Jiazhanyan is just his surname, because later he became famous, so everyone replaced his first name with his surname.
Kajanyan’s elder brother is also a talented, intelligent, handsome and bold man. After following his father to become a Brahmin, he traveled to various countries alone. He traveled many places, met many masters, and naturally knew a lot of academic , learned a lot of arts. After several years away, he returned to his hometown one day, called together the villagers, and publicly proclaimed the Vedas, which he considered the highest philosophy.
Kajanyan, who had never been out of the house, knew that his brother came back to talk about Vedas, so he also issued a notice, set up a podium, and at the same time gave a lecture on the philosophy of Vedas with his brother. His unimpeded eloquence and concise explanations attracted all the audience of his brother. Attracted, everyone judged in unison after listening: “The younger brother is far better than the older brother.”
However, the elder brother, who is naturally aggressive, began to envy his younger brother Kajanyan after this blow. Both of them were not convinced, and when they quarreled, they quarreled in front of their father. The angry elder brother first said to his father who is the national teacher: “Father! Please discipline the lawless younger brother. He is really embarrassing me. I am a person who has studied abroad for many years. Am I not as good as him? When giving a speech, stand on stage with me and pull my audience!”
The young Kajanyan explained calmly: “Please excuse me, father. Learning is open to the public. Everyone has the right to study and make speeches. My brother traveled abroad, and I studied at home. I have no intention of surpassing my brother. , I just want to know whether the careful research at home in the past few years has achieved some results? The result of my brother’s travels is full of success, and I am sincerely studying at home. Don’t bother my father to discipline, we discipline ourselves best, I hope my brother thinks the same way.”
The father, who is a national teacher, heard the words of his two beloved sons, but he didn’t know who to blame. In the end, they discussed with their mother and sent their younger brother Kajanyan to study with the Immortal Ashita on Pinta Mountain near the city of Uzenyani in the south, so as not to let him stay at home and prevent his elder brother from being successful.
2. Teachings from my uncle
Speaking of Immortal Ashita, he is Kajanyan’s uncle and elder brother of his mother. In India, Ashita was a knowledgeable and supernatural being at that time. The Buddha was born as a prince and was invited by King Jingfan. He was the one who went to the palace to take the crown prince. After taking the phase, he once said to King Jingfan: “My lord! You are a very wise prince. You will definitely become a monk in the future to learn the Tao and achieve the holy fruit of the Buddha.
Unfortunately, I am old. I am afraid that I will not wait until he becomes the Buddha. Although I cannot accept his teachings, I will definitely teach my descendants to learn from him.” At that time, Immortal Ashita said, tears streaming from his eyes.
Since Kajanyan was sent to Mount Pintuo by his father, Immortal Ashita deeply admired his nephew’s intelligence, and wished to teach him everything he knew, and Kajanyan also lived up to his uncle’s hope. Soon, It is completely comprehensible to the four meditations and five connections.
From then on, Kajanyan no longer missed his hometown. First, he didn’t want to rely on his father’s shadow, because he was the son of a national teacher, so he was respected; second, he thought of his aggressive brother, and knew that he couldn’t get along with him now. Therefore, Kajanyan made up his mind to create another world for him. His parents sent someone to pick him up, but he politely declined.
The Immortal Ashita knew that Kajanyan was not bound by family favors, and he was even more happy. Therefore, one day, he said to Kajanyan: “Jayjanyan! According to your current aspirations, you will definitely become great in the future. But it is good to meet a master. What I know is not enough for you to seek and learn. Now there is a Buddha who is a great enlightened being. After you become enlightened, you should hurry to learn from him !”
Jiazhanyan half-believed the words of Immortal Ashita, but he had no doubts about what he would become a great man in the future.
Once the Immortal Ashita took Kajanyan out of the mountain and arrived near the Sarnath in the Balonai Kingdom. He built a house and settled down. From the day when the house was completed, the Immortal Ashita asked Kajanyan to pray three times a day, praying that the Buddha, the Great Enlightened One, would be enlightened as soon as possible. Immortal Ashita even told his nephew: “Jajanyan!
According to my calculations, the Buddha will soon become enlightened. After he becomes enlightened, he will first come to the Sarnath to turn the wheel of Dharma. That’s all I know. As for I am afraid that I will not be lucky enough to hear what truth the Buddha has enlightened to, so you must remember that after the Buddha enlightened you, you must quickly seek the Dharma and practice the Tao from the Buddha!”
Immortal Ashita passed away shortly after he spoke. Without a master, Kajanyan has since flaunted his knowledge and talents to the society. His father is a teacher of the state, and his uncle is the Immortal Ashita. Although he didn’t think so, the people in the society paid respect and support to him with great care. It’s a pity that Jiazhanyan was so obsessed with fame and fortune, he forgot the last words of Immortal Ashita that he wanted to seek enlightenment from the Great Enlightenment Buddha.
3. Mysterious verses
Kajanyan thought that he had attained the Tao and should accept offerings from the world, so why would he hope that a Buddha would be born. Therefore, shortly after his uncle passed away, he stopped praying for an early encounter with the Buddha, the Great Enlightened One.
After a long time, many ruins of the ancient city were excavated in the wilderness near the city of Balonai. Among them was a stone tablet engraved with handwriting unknown to the world, like a verse, but no one could read it. There are even rumors in the society that even if someone can read the inscription, the true meaning must only be known by a great enlightened person.
One day, the king announced to his ministers: “The country has now obtained a treasure left over from ancient times, and the verse on the stone tablet in the treasure, everyone must read it out quickly. Otherwise, the neighbors will laugh at us. If no one recognizes you, you will be demoted one by one!”
Although the king’s edict was strict, the ministers had never seen the font on the inscription, and everyone looked at each other in blank dismay, helpless. In the end, I had to suggest to the king, hoping that the king would put up a list to inform the whole country, and whoever can understand the verses on the stone tablet will reward him with beautiful women and gold and silver treasures.
After the king’s king list was published, the news reached Kajanyan. He thought of his uncle, Immortal Ashita, who had not only taught him the languages of the countries on earth, but he also knew a lot of characters in the sky. Therefore, Jiazhanyan is very confident to apply for the list.
Kajanyan did know the verses on the stone tablet. He said that they were written in Brahma, and people without supernatural powers would not understand them. Therefore, in front of the king, he translated and recited the verses on the stone tablet.
The meaning of the verse is this:
Who is the king of kings?
Who is the Holy One?
What is a fool?
What is Homo sapiens?
How to get rid of filth?
How to attain Nirvana?
Who is drowning in the sea of life and death?
Who is at ease in the country of liberation?
The mysterious verse that has been unrecited by people for a long time, the clever Kajanyan finally unveiled the mysterious curtain, and soon this verse was recited throughout the country. But although everyone can recite this verse, no one understands what the verse refers to, even Kajayan can’t answer it.
Each line of the verse on the stele is an abstract question. It is possible to answer it with all the theories of the time, but the answer is still a question, which can be asserted. Although the king admitted to Kajanyan that he was erudite and knew even the Sanskrit script in the sky, it was still his greatest regret that he could not explain the meaning of the verse. Therefore, the king even ordered a high price to be offered to ask people from all over the world to answer the verse.
Kajanyan refused to admit defeat, and he promised the king that within seven days, he would answer the true meaning of the verse.
4. Ask the Buddha to go
Kajanyan made a promise to the king, and thought desperately after returning home, but the problem referred to in this verse cannot be understood by thinking and imagining. It must be answered by a great enlightened person.
When Jiazhanyan had no choice, he had to ask others for advice. First, he went to Phulana Kassapa for advice, and then he asked the six masters and heretics one by one. Kajayan felt that their answers were superficial views, as he knew, not the true meaning of the verse.
After Kajanyan hit a wall everywhere, he thought of Buddha. Although he remembered the Buddha, he still refused to ask for advice. He thought to himself, this gatha is written in heaven, and even the qualified and authoritative old Brahmans don’t know it. How could the young Gautam (the Buddha’s common name) know it? Later, he wanted to come back.
Before his uncle passed away, he repeatedly reminded him that after the Buddha became enlightened, he must learn from him. But how could the young Gautan become a Buddha with perfect deeds? Finally, he finally figured out that enlightenment is not determined by age, so he walked in the direction of Sarnath.
From ancient times to the present, if it is said that the one who can really answer this verse, it is indeed the Buddha alone. Regardless of whether the verse on the stone tablet is true or not, it always implies a profound meaning. The purpose of the Buddha’s years of hard work in cultivating the Tao is to uncover the answers to these questions. The Buddha’s enlightenment is the most flexible answer to this question.
Kajanyan, who paid homage to the Buddha, felt that his uncle’s words were indeed true. Before he knew the Buddha’s ocean-like wisdom, the Buddha’s admiration and majesty alone made him feel incomparably respectful.
Kajanyan clasped his palms together and recited the verse again, hoping that the Buddha would give him an answer.
The Buddha didn’t think about it, like a Hong Zhong being hit, he also replied in verse:
the king of kings is the sixth heavenly king,
the saint of saints is the Great Enlightened Buddha, those
who are infected by ignorance are called fools, and those who
can eliminate all afflictions are called wise people
Cultivating the Tao to get rid of greed, hatred and ignorance
means getting rid of dirt and
filth, and realizing Nirvana if you can complete precepts ,
concentration and wisdom.
The wise Kajanyan heard the Buddha’s answer, and every word flowed into his lungs, and a little shadow in his heart seemed to be driven away by the bright light of wisdom. He was so happy and excited that he couldn’t say a word of gratitude to the Buddha for a long time. In the end, he recited the Buddha’s verses and just kept bowing to the Buddha. No wonder Kajanyan was excited. After hearing the Buddha’s words, he became enlightened immediately, and he stepped into the world of truth from then on.
The Buddha was very pleased with Kajanyan, praised him for his profound good roots, and told him some Dharma principles. After thanking him, Kajanyan returned the king with the Buddha’s verses, and then announced to those who believed in him that he has since To take refuge in the Buddha, to be a disciple of the great sage Buddha.
5. Persuading the Three Jewels
Kajanyan, who was gifted and intelligent, was finally moved by the Buddha’s sublime wisdom and great personality, and became an enlightened disciple in the sect. Kajanyan was very happy. Not only was he saved, but also his uncle Asita The fairy’s wish.
The Venerable Kajanyan was originally an extraordinary person, not to mention that he is now a monk following the Buddha and has attained the Arhatship. He is well versed in the scriptures of many heretics, and has many friends of heretics. He vowed to first convert the ascetics who are wandering on the way, one by one, to convert to the Buddha and accept the truth of the Buddha.
Therefore, Kajanyan is not only enthusiastic about serving and practicing Taoism in the religious group, but also enthusiastic in spreading the Dharma and promoting Buddhism outside the religious group. Human beings can spread the Tao, but non-Tao can promote people. It is expected that the truth of the savior Buddha, with the powerful promotion and promotion of Venerable Kajayan, will be more easily popularized by the society and deeply rooted in the hearts of the people.
The truth of the Buddha’s salvation has remained unchanged from ancient times to the present, and has been renewed through thousands of kalpas. The more he preached it, the more confident he became. He believed that it was his greatest honor to be the messenger of the Buddha’s truth. Because of Kajanyan’s confidence and enthusiasm for the Dharma, his name is like the fragrance of a hundred flowers, flying far away. No matter who mentions Kajanyan’s name, he always puts his thumb up.
Once, the Buddha went to Xuanhua in the Kapilavastu state in the north of his homeland, and Kajayan followed the Buddha to live in the abode of the Hari settlement. In the villages here, no matter how small or small, there are his Xuanhua footprints. One day, the famous elder Bacheng in the village fell ill, and he thought of going to give him a special Dharma to relieve his illness.
Kazhanyan went to the home of the elder of Bacheng, and said to the elder of Bacheng who was sleeping on the bed: “Elder, I heard that your body is not in good condition. I am here to express my condolences to you by the Buddha’s benevolent orders. Have you sought medical treatment? ?”
“Thank you Buddha and you. I am afraid that my illness is hopeless. Many doctors say that my illness is incurable.” Elder Bacheng said sadly.
“Then you can recite the Triple Gem (recite the Buddha, recite the Dharma, and recite the Sangha), relying on the mighty virtue of the Triple Gem, your heart will be purified and your illness will be cured.”
“My lord! We take refuge in the Three Jewels in the hope of supporting the Three Jewels, purifying the world, and dedicating all we have. We should not have any demands on the Three Jewels.”
“That’s right. In the impermanent world, you can’t ask the Three Jewels to live forever; if you have a sick body, you can’t ask the Three Jewels for health. Faith is to sacrifice yourself to achieve the greater self. Small sufferings and illnesses, you have to think about it yourself, and don’t bother the Dharma too much. Monk. But human power cannot save you. If you sincerely pray to the Three Jewels, the light of kindness from the Three Jewels will still be universally received. You will not be wrong in doing so!”
The elder of Bacheng listened to Kajanyan’s words and chanted the Three Jewels wholeheartedly every day, and his incurable disease was gradually cured.
Although this is the vastness and boundlessness of the Buddhadharma, it also shows that Kazayan cares about the sick and uses the compassionate nectar of the Buddhadharma to heal the sufferings of all living beings!
6. Preach the Equality Act
Kajanyan sometimes followed the Buddha’s side to study, and sometimes traveled alone to teach. His teaching method is slightly different from that of Fuluna. When Fuluna preaches and preaches, he always gathers thousands of people to listen to his lectures, while the Venerable Kajayan prefers individual teachings.
One person, one person after another, speaking face to face, this is a kind way of speaking, and the truth can penetrate deeper into people’s hearts. In this way, no matter who it is, as long as Jia Chanyan says a few words, it will definitely make the other party have a good impression and believe his statement.
Once the Buddha lived in Gion Abode, and Kajayan took three robes and one bowl, walked alone through the vast forest, and went to the west to speak for King Matura.
When he arrived in the kingdom of King Matura, he first inquired about the local customs and living habits, and then went to the king’s city to meet the king.
As soon as King Matura saw Kajayan, he asked, “My lord! I heard that you were originally of the caste of Brahmin, which is the most noble race, and the Buddha is of the caste of Kshatriya. Now you are converted to be his disciple.” Disciple, isn’t this wronging you too much?”
“My lord! This is not only not wronged, but I feel very honored to be a disciple of the great sage Buddha!”
“Strange! Abandoning the pure human race that Brahma spoke of, and becoming a disciple of the Buddha who is originally a Kshatriya caste, it is really puzzling!”
The stubborn and old-fashioned king, full of unreasonable egotism and ego, seemed to disdain Kajayan’s words.
Venerable Kajanyan was not angry at all. He explained gently: “My lord! I used to be a Brahmin, and I have the same opinion as you. But after listening to the teachings of the Buddha, I know this is a wrong understanding. The social division Different classes of Brahmins, Kshatriyas, Vaisyas, Sudras, etc. have occupational classifications of religion, politics, commerce, and agriculture. ,
That is illegal!
No matter what caste people are, there are both good and evil. Among the Brahmin caste today, there are many people who kill, commit adultery, and wrong views, and do these evil karma. Is this the explanation of the noble race? Whether a person is high or low does not depend on the race, but if he can practice Taoism, learn goodness, and realize the fruit, no matter what race he is, he is noble, first, and innocent!”
King Matura finally realized what he said, and he said to himself, “Ah! Then I was wrong. In my country, some Sudras and Brahmins who committed crimes are imprisoned. No wonder there is chaos in society and discontent among the people.”
Kajanyan saw King Matura’s repentance and repentance, and further said: “So, my lord! You must believe in the righteous Dharma. The enlightened Buddha is the most honorable and noblest among human beings. We take refuge in him as disciples and seek life. This is the most glorious and happiest thing!”
King Matura accepted the Dharma of equality and asked Kajayan to introduce him. He also converted to the Buddha and became a disciple.
He gave amnesty to the world, released those Sudras who were suffering from prison, determined to rectify politics, did not bully the weak and fear the strong, and abolished the unequal laws of the country. From then on, the whole country is happy and the people are happy. Everyone is grateful to Venerable Kajayan and the Buddha Dharma of compassion and equality!
7. On the qualifications of elders
According to the teachings of the Buddha, Kajanyan advocated the equality of the four surnames. Many Brahmins were not convinced when they heard about it. When they had the opportunity, they came to Kajanyan to ask questions. Think again.
However, the venerable Kajanyan who is good at eloquence, no matter what kind of authoritative Brahmin you are, as long as you meet him, you will always convince the person who asks the question with very short words without a few words.
Once, when His Holiness was having dinner with his fellow bhikkhus in the altar by the Wuni Pond in Balonai, an elderly brahman found out and came to challenge him. The old Brahman leaned on his crutches and stood silently beside Kajayan. He thought to himself that when Kajanyan saw him, he must stand up and give up his seat. However, to his surprise, Kajanyan didn’t even look at him. When he got impatient, he asked loudly,
“What are you guys?
Why don’t you stand up and give up your seat to an old man like me?”
The monks were shocked when they heard this, and many people stood up to make way for the old Brahman. But Kajanyan said to the old Brahman calmly, “Who are you? You shouting so loudly? We are following the teaching of respect, but there are no elders or seniors here! ”
The old Brahman was very unconvinced. He raised the crutch in his hand, pointed to the beard on his face, and said angrily: “At my age, can I be called an elder? You should respect me?”
“You? You can’t call yourself an elder, and you shouldn’t be respected by us!” Kajanyan said softly but forcefully.
“Why are you so defiant?” the old Brahmin asked furiously, pointing the crutch in his hand at Kajayan’s face.
Facing the old Brahman, Kajanyan still said leisurely: “From your voice and your rough behavior, I say that you are not worthy of being called an elder, and you are not worthy of respect. Because even if you are a Brahmin, At the age of eighty or ninety, his teeth are white and his teeth are falling out, but he has not really practiced the Tao, indulges in color, smell, touch, and cannot get rid of the afflictions of greed, hatred and jealousy, so he should still be called a youth; if he is twenty years old.
The young man on the left and right has smooth skin and black hair, and he has freed himself from the shackles of love and desire. He has no greed for the world, and has no concept of injustice. We can call him an elder like this, and call him an old monk. He should be respected by all of us. !”
After hearing what Kajanyan said, the old Brahman had nothing to say, so he walked away silently.
8. The right way is not in the age
Convincing a Brahmin is not a matter of peace. The greater the reputation of Kajanyan, the more difficult it is for the Brahmans to fight against him.
It was another Brahmin who was very good at debating. He heard that Kajanyan was not only disrespectful to the old Brahmin, but also made the old Brahmin speechless. Therefore, he was very dissatisfied. Kajayan came to the country of Balonai, where he was temporarily staying. As soon as he met him, he called by name and asked, “Kajanyan! I heard people say that Kajayan, who was originally a Brahmin, has now changed his religion and become a recluse. Is it true?”
“You’re right, look at the cassock I’m wearing!”
“Is it a fault to betray one’s own beliefs?”
“It’s not a mistake to go from the evil and obsessive belief to the bright and righteous way!” Kazhanyan replied decisively.
“You are not an unknown person. You have studied the Brahman’s Manu code deeply. It is unforgivable for you to convert to the Buddha. But I heard that you often preach the Dharma to the Brahmans and ask them to convert with you. Your behavior is simply disrespectful!”
“Those who have been here, point out the mazes of those who walked in the past, this is the teaching of the Buddha’s compassion!”
Even a talking Brahmin has no choice but to meet the righteous Kajanyan.
The Brahmin still refused to admit defeat. Thinking of his purpose here, he asked again: “Kajanyan! Let me ask you again. I heard that Kajanyan, who is a recluse monk, no longer respects the Brahmin who is a senior. If this is the truth, even a bhikkhu should not stand up to greet you and not take your seat!”
Kajanyan seemed to have a well-thought-out plan, and replied calmly: “What you asked is the truth. Kajanyan, after taking refuge in the Omniscient Buddha, did not respect the Brahmins who served the elders. This is very reasonable. Because I, who has already attained holy fruit, cannot be judged by age, etiquette and law cannot be messed up.”
After hearing the eloquent Kajanyan’s answer, the Brahmin was deeply ashamed and could not speak anymore. Finally, he had to abandon his wrong views, ask the venerable to introduce him, and became a disciple of the Buddha.
Just like this story, many heretics at that time, under the ingenious discussion of Kajanyan, turned their backs and accepted the belief in Buddhism.
What a respectable and lovely Venerable!
9. Answer the reasons for the quarrel
The truth cannot be clarified without debate. There is a Buddhist disciple like Kajanyan in the Sangha, which makes many people who want to ask questions feel a little afraid.
Once, when Kajanyan was walking on the street begging for alms, he was seen by a Brahmin ascetic who was walking towards him. After greeting Kajanyan, he asked, “My lord! How wonderful it is to meet you today. Rare fate, I have a question to ask you, I hope you can dispel my doubts with an objective attitude!”
“You’re welcome, what question do you have doubts about?”
“My lord! I see that in the world, Kshatriyas fight against each other, Brahmins fight against Brahmins, and they fight back and forth. What is the reason?”
“Greed is bewitching!” Kajanyan replied.
“Brahmins fight with Brahmins, and Kshatriyas fight with Kshatriyas, because of greed. Venerable Sir! Let me ask you again, what is the reason why you bhikkhus are fighting with bhikkhus?”
“It’s me and law enforcement!”
The Brahman ascetic closed his eyes and touched his head with his hands, as if he was thinking hard about the words of the venerable.
The strange appearance of the Brahmin closing his eyes and touching his head attracted the attention of the people on both sides of the street. Originally, the monks and Brahmins asking questions in the street were already eye-catching, not to mention that this Brahmin ascetic was acting strangely.
One is a bhikkhu wearing a yellow cassock, standing dignifiedly, and the other is wearing braided hair and wearing a Brahman’s ascetic clothes, still closing his eyes, touching his head, surrounded by watching crowds, this The scene is like the best drama on the stage of life.
The Brahmin ascetic thought for a while, opened his eyes, and asked again: “My lord! Your answer is very fair and reasonable, but I want to know who in the world can leave greed, self-view and law enforcement?”
Kajanyan replied without hesitation: “My teacher Buddha, who is teaching the Dharma in Savatthi City, is a worthy, omniscient, and supremely enlightened one. Persistence, he is the teacher of the three realms, the teacher of man and heaven!”
The Brahman ascetic was very grateful for Kajanyan’s statement, and he immediately asked the venerable to introduce him to the Buddha as a lay Buddhist at home.
After convincing the Brahmin ascetics, the crowd cheered Kajanyan, and many people knelt on the ground and bowed to His Holiness, as if congratulating His Holiness on his victory!
However, the venerable didn’t show any pride and complacency. He saluted everyone modestly, and said goodbye to the ascetic who was originally a Brahmin and now wanted to be a layman, and still lived his life as a beggar.
10. Discipline rude teenagers
Kajanyan, who was a monk from the Brahmin, had many disputes with the Brahmin. It is always because His Holiness has a very high status and reputation in Brahmanism. Once he converts to Buddhism, it really shakes the religion of theocracy
There are many Brahmins who attack Kajanyan and ask questions, but there are also many Brahmins who maintain friendship with Kajanyan and feel that their beliefs should be free.
At one time, when Kajanyan Xinghua came to the Macaque Village in the Avanti Kingdom, there was a Brahmin named Lu Yancha in this village. He still respected Kajanyan who had become a monk and became a monk. .
One day, the young disciples of the Brahmin Lu Chanja went to the mountain to cut firewood. When they came to a grotto, they saw Kajayan practicing in the cave. Ah! Look at that bald-headed Samana! “”Look! Look! What a bald-headed Samana!”
Lu Shanzhe’s disciples laughed loudly outside the cave, one by one. One of them once stopped him and said, “Hey! Don’t swear at people like that, he is the most respected person by our master!” Although someone stopped him like this, the naughty young Brahmin still laughed loudly, and some even threw stones into the cave. Inside throw.
Kajanyan, who was sitting in meditation, had to stand up, go outside the cave, and admonished the young Brahmins: “Young men! In the past, the Brahmins still practiced seriously and forbade the five desires. Now the Brahmins marry wives and have children, no different from ordinary people. You see Your behavior is the same as that of ignorant and savage teenagers, is this the education of your master?”
Kajanyan’s majestic roar like a lion scared the young Brahmins into submission, but they were full of hatred, and immediately told their master Lu Yanja Brahmin how Kajanyan cursed Brahmins are not good.
After hearing this, Lu Yanzhe said very angrily, “I have so much respect for Jia Chanyan, but he scolded us instead. I must try to reason with him!”
Lu Yanzhe ran towards Jiajanyan’s grotto with a murderous look, thinking that this time he must embarrass Jiajanyan. But after seeing the majestic Jiajanyan, Jiajanyan repeated what he had just said, and Lu Yanzhe was so ashamed that he bowed his head and remained silent.
Kajanyan took the opportunity to say: “My good friend Lu Yanzhe! Listen to me, our belief and practice are for the liberation of life and death, the freedom of life, and we must not professionalize belief and practice.
Now Brahmans The ascetics in the book, offering sacrifices to others, seem to be operating as a business, leaving their families to become Brahmins. How many of them are really practicing for the sake of cultivating? Many of them are for fame and gain, and they pretend to be very devout in hypocrisy , everyone is not really in order to be saved, put on the signboard of religion, and follow their own desires, this is a great tragedy!
“Today’s Brahmins all seek the Dharma outside their hearts. They are not seeking blessings from others or heaven, or they are solving the phenomena of the universe. How many of them can understand themselves?
My teacher Buddha, he is the savior of those wandering on the wrong path of religion. You You are my good friend, I hope you will give up your arrogance, don’t be a good teacher, and come together to learn from the Buddha with an open mind!”
Lu Yanzhe said in shame: “My lord! You are right. Now I will follow your instructions!”
It was like a big knife stabbing at the head, not only could not stab Kajanyan, but was broken by the words of the Venerable Yili. Lu Yanzhe had to disarm the delusional and persistent, and surrendered to Venerable Kajanyan, who is the most discussed one!
11. Talk about impermanence
Jiazhanyan’s eloquence is not hindered, and he is good at discussing. No one can compare with him. He is famous in the Sangha and society, and no one does not know it.
The Buddha likes his disciples to have a way. As long as there is a slight merit, he always promotes and praises it. Now that Kajanyan is such an extraordinary disciple, the Buddha saw it with his eyes and heard it with his ears, and he was very happy. Therefore, once when he was teaching at Avanti, the Buddha used Kajanyan as his seat to explain the principles of impermanence for monks, nuns, upasakas, and upasakas.
Kajanyan first bowed to the Buddha, and then said: “Great and good friends! All those who gather have a time to leave. There is life and there is death, and there is achievement and degeneration. There are all kinds of dharmas in the world. You can’t get away from the law of impermanence!”
“Seeing the flowers blooming in spring, the autumn wind blowing, and the yellow leaves falling down; the beauty who was originally young and beautiful, after the cold and summer, becomes a chicken-skinned, gray-haired, old-fashioned.
“If a person is not freed from impermanence, the short life is really lonely and sad. Look at the morning dew on the flowers, it can only last until the sunrise; even if it is the sun that emits infinite light and illuminates the world, it will Still disappearing into the dark night.
“Lovely relatives, when you die of old age, they can’t replace them; filial children and grandchildren, when you pass away, although they cry around you, but crying can’t frighten impermanence, and cry you back to life.
“Gold, silver and treasure are also unreliable. Natural disasters and man-made disasters will destroy them all; fame and power are also unreal. Have you ever seen a royal family with a tumbler in the world?
“If you don’t understand the principle of impermanence, you will be deceived by the colorful world. The natural world, green mountains and green waters; the life, healthy and strong; the society, feasting and feasting; all these seem to have infinite interest, but they are really harmful It is a trap, because there is a hidden worry of impermanence in it!
“Think about it carefully, the world is full of hypocrisy and deceit for the sake of impermanence; the only thing that is not false or deceitful is the truth of cause and effect and the karma of personal creation, which go hand in hand, whether they are alive or dead. Follow us step by step.
“So, all good friends! We aspirants must have the spirit of challenging the demon of impermanence. Under the compassionate guidance of the Buddha, we must step up our practice, know ourselves, smash the impermanent world, and obtain eternal life. We don’t want to be born, Don’t die either!”
Kajanyan’s painful teachings were clear and reasonable, and all the monks, nuns, upasakas, and upasikas who were listening to the lecture were moved.
To speak on behalf of the Buddha, only a debater like Kajanyan can have this qualification and honor!
12. Tell the poor how to get rich
After Kajanyan declared Hua in the country of Avanti, on his way back to the country of Sravasti to listen to the Buddha’s preaching, he saw a woman holding a water bottle, sitting by the river and crying loudly. When the venerable saw it, he felt sympathy spontaneously. Because of his compassion, he was afraid that the woman would throw herself into the water because she couldn’t think about the disappointment.
So he stepped forward and asked, “Woman! What is it that hurts you, and why are you weeping here?”
“Don’t worry about it, what’s the use of telling you?” The woman cried louder.
“Woman! Tell me, I am a disciple of the Buddha, and I can help you solve your suffering.”
“You can’t help it. You see the world is so unfair and the disparity between the rich and the poor is so great. I am a miserable poor man who has suffered all my life. I am tortured by poverty so much that I really don’t want to live!”
After the woman said, she looked as if she was about to jump into the water, and Kajanyan quickly stepped forward and grabbed her, and enlightened her very mercifully and sympathetically, “Woman! Don’t be sad. There are many poor people in the world, not only you. One person. At the same time, the poor are not necessarily suffering or misfortune, and the rich are not necessarily happy. Look at those rich people who own slaves and farms, they are still suffering from the afflictions of greed and hatred every day. As long as people live in peace, Well, is poverty worth the sorrow?”
The woman struggled impatiently and said: “You are a recluse who has become a monk. You can see the world and we can’t. You must know that I am a slave of the rich and powerful here. I have been a slave for many years. I don’t have freedom, and my black-hearted master is greedy, violent, and has no compassion. When we do something wrong, we beat and scold us, making us unable to live or die. Thinking that all these pains are due to me How can you not cause people to mourn because of poverty?”
“Woman! Since this is the case, don’t be sad. I will tell you a way to get rid of poverty and get rich.”
“What method?” The woman wiped her tears and looked at Kajanyan.
“The method is simple. Since you are suffering because of poverty, you can sell your poverty to others!”
“Can poverty be sold to others?” The woman exclaimed, “Don’t talk nonsense. If poverty could be sold to others, there would be no poor people in the world. Who would buy poverty?”
“Sell it to me, I will buy it!” Kajanyan replied.
“Poverty can be sold, and you can buy it, but the world doesn’t know how to sell poverty.”
“Giving!” The venerable said: “You must know that the rich and the poor in life have their own reasons. The poor are poor because they did not give alms and cultivate blessings in their previous lives; .So giving and cultivating blessings is the best way to sell the poor to buy the rich.”
After the woman heard this, she was wise and cheerful. She didn’t understand the way to get rich until today. But then she asked with a bitter face: “My lord! You are right. I do understand the way to get rich. But I am extremely poor, and I have nothing. It is the water bottle in my hand, or my love of money.” As the owner of fate, how can you tell me to give alms?”
Kajanyan handed his bowl to the woman and said, “You don’t have to use money to give money, you can give joy to others. Now you take this bowl and give me water as your gift to me!”
At this moment, the woman really understood the meaning of giving, and immediately practiced it according to the teaching. Later, with the merit of offering water, she was born in the Taoli Heaven for enjoyment.
Jiazhanyan has the convenience of speaking, the so-called discussion is the first, and it is indeed a well-deserved reputation among monks!
13. Turn love into compassion
Once, Kajanyan left the Buddha and went to teach in the bamboo forest of an elder in the remote Polo Pear Garden. At that time, King Wen Tu, the king here, had an unfortunate accident, that is, his most beloved princess died. King Wentu was very sad, he didn’t eat, he didn’t drink water, and he didn’t even care about politics. He just wept and sobbed every day.
A dead person, even if he has the power and power to be a king, can’t bring the dead back to life. King Wentu couldn’t forget the old love, and ordered the minister to soak his wife’s dead body in sesame oil to prevent her from decomposing. He said to the dead body every day: “Why doesn’t this mouth speak to me? Why don’t these hands come to me?” Hug me? My dear! How can you look at me and not look at it?”
King Wentu’s sorrow seemed to be endless, and the ministers were so anxious that they couldn’t think about it. He wanted to persuade the king not to be overly sad, but the king would not listen to a word of the advice. The king said that the best way for him not to be sad is to bring his wife back to life, but who can do this?
When the ministers were so anxious that they couldn’t help it, they thought of Kajanyan in Boluo Liyuan, thinking that his mighty virtue and eloquent arguments might be able to make the king stop his sadness and regain his courage to deal with state affairs.
The ministers suggested to King Wentu: “My lord! In our country, there is now a disciple of the Buddha Youhua here. He is the Venerable Kajanyan. He has great supernatural powers, great virtues, profound knowledge, and knows nothing. I don’t know, I even know the Brahma characters on the stone tablet! And my eloquence is not hindered. When I speak, I always have a smile on my face. Your Majesty! You go to see him, maybe it will help you!”
Upon hearing this, King Wen Tu quickly asked, “Can his supernatural powers bring Madam back to life?”
The ministers were perplexed and dared not speak up. Among them, a minister who had heard Kajanyan’s teachings replied vigilantly: “Your Majesty! Can you bring Madam back to life? We dare not answer this question. Regarding this question, only Go ask Venerable Kajanyan for advice!”
King Wentu adopted the advice of the ministers and set off immediately, riding in Baoyu’s royal chariot with a grand gift, and when he met in the forest, he asked Kajanyan to rescue his wife.
Kajanyan grabbed a branch beside him and said to King Wentu, “Your Majesty, bring this branch back to the palace as an offering, so that it will be evergreen and not wither, is that okay?”
“This is impossible. It has left its roots and cannot live again.” King Wentu replied.
“Madam’s karma has been exhausted, her lifespan is over, how can she come back to life?”
Kajanyan asked rhetorical questions instead of answers, and King Wentu suddenly realized the impermanence of death and no longer living.
Knowing King Wentu’s heart, Kajanyan further explained: “My lord! You are the king, and you belong to the people of the whole country, not your wife alone. You should spread your love for your wife to the people of the whole country. People, replace selfish love with compassion, your country will prosper, and the people will always support you as king!”
When King Wentu heard this, his wisdom enlightened him, and he no longer felt sad. He saluted and bid farewell to the Venerable, returned to the palace to bury his wife, rectified the state affairs, loved the people as he loved his wife, and the whole country rejoiced.
Today, the flames of heresy spread all over the world. I hope that the spirit of Venerable Kajanyan, who is the number one in discussion, can be revived in the Buddhist sect!
