Episode 2: Duanwu cleverly sells the pearl for a high price
As a pearl princess, Duanwu wants to fetch the highest price for the pearls in her hands. She must make herself as dazzling as the pearls among the crowd. She is inconspicuous among a group of dancers, there are many slim beauties there. Duanwu cannot complete the dance smoothly because she has not rehearsed beforehand. When she finds herself starting to make a fool of herself, she concentrates on thinking of countermeasures. She notices that there is a drummer in the band on the side.
Duanwu once observed a dancing woman. She danced gracefully to the beat of drums. Duanwu walked gracefully to the drummer, took the small drum, and started playing. Duanwu’s dance was novel and beautiful, refreshing, and she soon stood out. The other women knew they were no match for her and quietly withdrew.
After the dance, Zhu Ji started selling pearls. Duanwu was very scheming. In order to sell his pearls at a high price, he even dripped a drop of his own blood on the beads. They were called “blood beads”. These blood beads were very valuable and could ward off evil spirits. One bead meant one life.
Yan Zijing offered 6 million, but Duanwu knelt on the ground for a long time and was unwilling to hand over the beads to Yan Zijing. She had made a blood oath with her supervisor: if she could not sell it for 7 million, she would be beaten to death. In order for herself and her good sister to leave the pearl field smoothly, she had no choice but to take this risk.
Zhang Jinran had heard the conversation between Duanwu and his supervisor, and when he saw Duanwu’s tears, he felt sympathy and immediately agreed to buy it for 7 million. Everyone was shocked, and Zhang Jinran asked his men to give the boss a gold leaf, and the deal was done.
Duanwu came to Zhang Jinran to express her gratitude. Zhang Jinran asked her to take him around. One of them was a nobleman, while the other was a lowly slave. When they talked about each other, they saw a world of difference. Duanwu was fascinated by Zhang Jinran’s description of Chang’an as bustling and having all the good things in the world. Zhang Jinran also told Duanwu that there was an ancient wishing tree in Chang’an.
As long as she made a sincere wish and wrote her wish on a wishing sign and hung it on the tree, it would come true. Duanwu had never heard of such a new thing. Zhang Jinran couldn’t help sighing when he heard that her biggest wish was “freedom”. He helped Duanwu write her wish on a card and hung it on the tree. He also wished her: “Your heart is like a mirror, and you will get what you want.”
Yan Zijing secretly met Cui Wu. Cui Wu got a gold leaf at the auction. Although he knew that the item was priceless, he couldn’t sleep well because he didn’t know Zhang Jinran’s background.
Yan Zijing told him that the man who bought the pearl was the brother of King Ying, who was trusted by the emperor. He had recently left Beijing and went south, and it was obvious that he had come with an order. In addition, King Ying and King Tan were fighting fiercely. Judging from the current situation, King Ying had the greatest chance of winning. In order to protect himself, Cui Wu had to agree to sell all the pearls at the auction that day to Yan Zijing at a low price.
Here, Duanwu and Lala were sent to Cui Wu’s room. Facing this rapist, Duanwu refused to compromise, but Cui Wu had a knife. Fortunately, the nanny arrived in time. Cui Wu asked the nanny to kill Duanwu, but unexpectedly the nanny ended his life.
Cui Wu died, and the nanny tried her best to pull Duanwu to escape, but the people behind were relentless in pursuit. The nanny used her own life to push Duanwu onto the boat. Before she died, she told Duanwu that she was Duanwu’s mother and had wanted to rescue her for so many years, and now she could die with her eyes closed.
Duanwu gained her freedom, but lost her mother at the same time. She was completely desperate and her boat drifted all the way. It happened to collide with a large ship. Fortunately, the person on the boat was Zhang Jinran, and Duanwu and her brother were saved.
