University of Tampere (Finnish: Tampereen yliopisto; English: University of Tampere), a well-known university in Finland, a member of the Global Alliance of Universities and Advanced Research Institutes, and the Alliance of Guangzhou International Friendship Cities Universities. It is located in Tampere, a city in southwestern Finland, with narrow streets and clear divisions. At the beginning of the nineteenth century, the population was less than 500 people. In the center of Tampere, there are some old buildings, ancient ruins, churches and so on.
The predecessor of the University of Tampere was the Teachers College established in Helsinki in 1925. The purpose of the Teachers College is to improve the overall educational level of the country and equip students with the professional skills needed for nation-building in Finland’s immediate post-independence period. In 1930, the Faculty became a prestigious Faculty of Social Sciences. In 1960, the college moved to Tampere. In 1966 the college was upgraded to a university. The overall advantage of the university is still in the research methods for social sciences, and it is the leader in this research field in Finland.
