Thimphu or in the official name is “Tashicho Dzong“. This is the capital of Bhutan since year 1961. During that time Zhabdrung Ngawang Namgyel come and publish Phutthamonthon – Vajrayāna Buddhism in Bhutan. He was visit Thimphu city. The city is small with population and temples. When Thimphu city was established as the capital of Bhutan then population in the city were increased until now.

Thimphu is located on the west side of Wang River. In the city, there are many roads intersecting parallel to the river and many small narrow roads separating at various points in the city. These roads are winding paths along with houses and up hills is the Government House building which located on the hill in Motitang District. The rich people of the city live at downtown area. There are many roads that pass through Zanto Pelri Shopping Complex. Most shops and hotels come together at the intersection of the south circle.
There are many attractions in Thimphu that not far away. Some place can walk along with the alleys and you will see many interesting things including the daily life of Thimphu people.

Tourist attractions in Thimphu
1. Thimphu Weekend Market
Thimphu Weekend Market is outdoor market which rural villagers sell products on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The market is north of the stadium.
2. Motithang
Motithang is a beautiful residential area of Thimphu. Flourished in the mid-1980s from the creation of the Mootang Hotel in year 1974 to celebrate on the occasion King Chik.
3. Tango Goemba
Tango Goemba is 12 kilometers from the city of Thimphu to the east side. At the temple you have to walk up to 280 meters high to the hill.
4. Semtokha Dzong
Semtokha Dzong means Palace of the Profound Meaning of Secret Mantras. This fortress is the first fortress of the Kingdom. Built around the year 1629 by Sir Zhabdrung Ngawang Namgyal who sealed the land of Bhutan to be unified.
5. Cheri Goemba
Cheri Goemba is about half an hour walk from Tango Temple. At an altitude of 2,600 meters above sea level. The path from Tango Temple to Cherry Temple must cross the wooden bridge spanning across Wang River and walk up to hill. The scenery in this area is very beautiful and natural. Mr. Subdung Na Wang Nam Kale was the first monk who build and establish a monastery in year 1620.
