Anamudi Peak is the 2,695 m high mountain, stands tall in the Eravikulam National Park. It is the pride of Kerala and the highest point in India outside the Himalayan Mountain Ranges. The literal meaning of Anamudi is “Elephant’s Forehead”. The name comes from the fact that the peak is home to largest surviving population of Asian elephants, Gaurs and Nilgiri Tahrs. Covered with evergreen forests and inhabited by endemic flora, fauna and a vibrant avian life, it is a paradise in the wild. One rare delight is the blue Neelakurinji flowers which blooms once in 12 years.
The Anamudi peak is famous for trekking expedition in Munnar. Trekking to the Anamudi Peak blesses with views of hills covered in mists, beautiful rivers, lush valleys, plantations of tea and spices. Trekkers both experienced and amateurs will find the route scenic and achievable. Trekking facilities are easily available. Tourists can walk up to 2 kms up the foothills. However, special permission from the Forest Department are required to scale the peak.
