Thousand-handed Avalokitesvara, also known as Thousand-handed Thousand-Eyed Avalokitesvara, Thousand-Eyed Thousand-Armed Avalokitesvara, etc., is one of the Four Great Bodhisattvas in the folk beliefs of our country. Thousand-handed Avalokitesvara is the left side attendant of Amitabha Buddha, and together with Amitabha Buddha and Dashizhi Bodhisattva (the right side attendant of Amitabha Buddha) are collectively known as the “Three Saints of the West”.
According to Buddhist classics, the thousand-handed Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva represents the protection of all sentient beings, and the thousand-eyes represent the whole world. After the Tang Dynasty, the Thousand-handed Avalokitesvara was gradually enshrined as the main image in many temples in China. The image of the thousand-handed Guanyin is often represented by forty hands, each with an eye.
The Thousand-handed Avalokitesvara is the deity of the Kode of the Avalokitesvara. “Thousands” means immeasurable and perfect. The “thousands of hands” represent the immeasurable and vastness of great compassion, and the “thousands of eyes” represent the perfection and unhinderedness of wisdom. According to the Dharani Sutra: Avalokitesvara with one thousand hands and one thousand eyes can benefit all sentient beings, and according to the machine of sentient beings, it corresponds to the five divisions and five dharmas, and fulfills all wishes.
Thousand-handed Avalokitesvara is a symbol of great compassion. When you wear it, she can silently bless you through various difficulties and eliminate various ailments. When you are lucky, it can make you more brilliant, and when your luck is low, it can eliminate all All kinds of obstacles, resolve all kinds of disasters, so that you can successfully pass the pass, and achieve a lifetime of happiness, peace and auspiciousness.
Therefore, if people born in the Year of the Rat can devoutly wear or worship the Buddha Dharma image of the Thousand-handed Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva, they will make everything go according to their hearts and their wishes will come true.
The legend of the thousand-handed Guanyin
According to legend, Baique Nunnery was built during the Northern and Southern Dynasties and the Northern Zhou Dynasty. The nunnery sits in the north and faces the south. The temple enshrines the Bodhisattva “Thousands of Hands and Thousands of Eyes”, who is Miaoshan, the third daughter of King Miaozhuang, the king of Xinglin, known as “Three Huanggu”.
Miao Shan likes to practice. He once became a nun in Baique Nunnery, but because King Miaozhuang forced him to return to the secular world, he set fire to Baique Nunnery, causing hundreds of nuns to die. Suffering from a strange disease – sores on the human face, the hands and eyes of her own daughter were used as medicine introductions, so Sanhuanggu gave up her own hands and eyes to treat her father.
After King Miaozhuang recovered from his illness, he wanted to make Sanhuanggu a Bodhisattva with all hands and eyes, build a temple for her, and make a golden body. King Miaozhuang was originally the lower realm of the gods, and the real dragon and the emperor were all “golden mouth and jade words”, a sentence of “a thousand hands and a thousand eyes”, to convey the imperial edict to the builders, so when the temple was built, he gave the golden body of the three emperors a lot of hands and eyes. With long eyes, he is now the Bodhisattva of “Thousands of Hands and Thousands of Eyes”.
The nunnery is full of incense, especially the two temple fairs on the fourth day of April and the twenty-fifth day of September in the lunar calendar. Pilgrims spread all over Hebei, Shanxi, Henan and other provinces. In September 1988, the Hebei Buddhist Association designated it as the “Baique Nunnery in Nanhe County, Hebei Province”.
The legend of Sanhuanggu became well-known as early as the Sui Dynasty. The twenty volumes of “Sou Shen Ji” regarded Guanyin as a god. A brief note said: “King Miaozhuang has three daughters, the long Miaoyin, the second Miaoyuan, the three Miaoshan, Miaoshan is Guanyin. , It was extremely unbearable, and the side-scrolling ghost force replaced it.
Wang was angry, and ordered the Baique Temple to be burned. The monks of the temple were all destroyed in the flames, and the great man was as good as ever. Life is temporary, the knife is folded three times; life is hanged with white training, and suddenly the black wind covers the sky, and a white tiger goes away.
When they reached the corpse forest, the boy in Tsing Yi stood there, went through the underworld, crossed the bridge of the Naihe River, and saved the suffering. After returning to the corpse forest, he met a senior and referred to the cultivation of Xiangshan. Later, King Zhuang was seriously ill, and he cut out his head and cut his arm to save him. Thousands of hands and eyes appeared in the sky, so it was said: Namo is the great compassion and great compassion, the inspiration for saving suffering and rescue, Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva. “
