The Princess Royal (2024) 度华年 Episode 1 Recap

Episode 1: The Princess and the Prince Consort Kill Each Other and Both Are Reborn

On a cold night in late winter, the bright moon hangs high above the Hanqiu Palace, reflecting the crowds of people gathered in front of the palace.

Queen Shangguan Ya led the ministers to ask for an audience with the emperor, but was stopped by a team of imperial guards who were waiting in full battle array. These imperial guards were dressed in armor and held spears, like sculptures standing in the cold wind.

They were neatly arranged outside the palace, building an indestructible barrier. Until the appearance of Pei Wenxuan, the chief minister of the Great Xia Dynasty, there was finally a crack.

Although the queen was in an emergency, she did not dare to confront Pei Wenxuan head-on. Pei Wenxuan met with the seriously ill Emperor Li Chuan alone, and prepared the edict of succession in advance.

Li Chuan’s last will required Pei Wenxuan to abolish the crown prince Li Xin and support the eldest prince Li Ping to inherit the throne.

He also wanted to suppress the power of the aristocratic families, especially the princess Li Rong. If she had the intention of rebellion, Pei Wenxuan had to eliminate her on behalf of the poor.

In the Princess’s Mansion, Li Rong suffers from a chronic disease. Fortunately, Su Rongqing often serves by her bedside. He is the manager of the Princess’s Mansion and the person Li Rong trusts the most and is closest to.

As the battle for the crown prince becomes increasingly intense, Li Rong knows that the aristocratic family is a major concern for her younger brother Li Chuan, so she decides to make the Queen’s son Li Xin the crown prince before Pei Wenxuan takes action to protect the aristocratic family.

Although Pei Wenxuan is the Princess’s consort, he and Li Rong are not in harmony. They have different ideas and cannot make plans. They have always been tit-for-tat, and it seems that they will never stop fighting.

Tonight, Pei Wenxuan suddenly visited the Princess’s Mansion, just to make a crown prince. Li Rong did not refuse to see him, but negotiated with him despite her illness.

When he was young, Pei Wenxuan was born very well. Even at the age of knowing his destiny, he still has some calmness that is rare in young people. It’s a pity that Pei Wenxuan has someone else in his heart.

Since Li Rong knew that the person he was thinking about was Concubine Qin Zhenzhen, and the things he did later, she no longer had any feelings for him.

Pei Wenxuan had a grudge against Su Rongqing, so Li Rong found an excuse to get rid of Su Rongqing, pretending to be unaware of the court affairs, and responded to Pei Wenxuan lightly, emphasizing that the eldest son should be made the crown prince, and at the same time noticed the sachet worn by the other party on his waist.

The two did not agree with each other. Before leaving, Pei Wenxuan warned Li Rong to stop in time, and ridiculed her for valuing Su Rongqing, who had been castrated, which made Li Rong furious.

After taking the medicine, she suddenly felt a cramped stomach pain, and then blood surged up and vomited a mouthful of blood.

Su Rongqing was stunned for a moment, and panicked and called the imperial doctor to take her pulse. The imperial doctor concluded that she was poisoned by the beautiful lady Xiang.

After this, Li Rong thought of Pei Wenxuan’s sachet and the cause of Qin Zhenzhen’s death, and she couldn’t help but feel sad.

This person finally did her a favor. That night, Li Rong ordered Su Rongqing to gather elite troops to ambush Pei Wenxuan on his way back home, intending to kill him.

Pei Wenxuan was shocked and sad to hear that the assassin was ordered by the princess, and died with his eyes open.

Li Rong regretted missing Su Rongqing before she died, but she lost consciousness before she finished speaking.

When she woke up again, she found herself in the old palace of Changle Palace in her youth, and beside her was Jinglan, a personal maid who “resurrected from the dead”.

After a conversation, Li Rong confirmed that she was reborn to the age of eighteen.

This year, it was the emperor who chose a son-in-law for Li Rong, and then Li Rong followed the arrangement and married Pei Wenxuan, a scholar from a poor family.

Pei Wenxuan was handsome and gentle. He was the eldest son of the noble Pei family, and was even comparable to Su Rongqing, the first noble son of Huajing. However, because his father died early, he gradually became a poor man among the nobles.

Originally, Li Rong had thought that if Pei Wenxuan was a good man, she might as well grow old with him. Who knew that after getting married, this legendary gentle man actually had an unknown side, which made her completely realize what a smiling tiger is.

What happened later, Li Rong dared not and did not want to think about it. She was determined to change the past life trajectory, and first of all, she had to put an end to the marriage with Pei Wenxuan.

After a wash and dress, Li Rong went to the palace to meet her father. Looking at the person she had not seen for ten years, she suddenly felt mixed emotions. Because Li Rong was the emperor’s legitimate daughter, her status was naturally noble.

Before the age of eighteen, the relationship between father and daughter was still good, and she cherished the family affection in the royal family very much. To this day, she still fantasizes that if everything starts over, they can just be father and daughter of ordinary people.

Unfortunately, the next second, as the emperor, Li Ming’s suspicion and alienation broke the warm atmosphere of the father and daughter. Li Ming asked someone to bring the portraits of four princes for Li Rong to choose. Three of them were all gold and jade, but only Pei Wenxuan had a decent character.

Li Ming did it deliberately, intending to suppress the power of Li Rong’s mother’s family. Li Rong cleverly avoided the matter of selecting a son-in-law and invited four young masters and children of noble families in the name of holding a spring banquet.

At the same time, Pei Wenxuan was surprised to find that he had returned to Yongning for the 24th year. This year, his family had changed and became poor. Qin Zhenzhen was greedy and vain and proposed to cancel the engagement. Coincidentally, the emperor arranged a marriage for him.

With the status of a son-in-law, the Pei family was able to gain a foothold in the court again. Therefore, when Pei Wenxuan received the invitation to the spring banquet submitted by the princess’s mansion, he was not flattered like in his previous life, but happily agreed.

On the surface, they seemed to care about each other, but in fact, they were calculating and competing with each other.
