Rahula- the number one esoteric practice

羅睺羅(Rāhula)พระราหุล หรือพระนามเดิม เจ้าชายราหุล

1. The happiest child in the world

Before the Buddha became a monk, he was the prince of Kapilavastu and married Princess Yasodhara of Koli City as his concubine.

The prince and the princess both gave birth to Luohouluo when they were nineteen years old. The prince was very happy. This was not the joy of giving birth to a son in general, but because the prince had asked his father, King Jingfan, to become a monk several times, but none of them were accepted. Yun Zhun, King Jingfan once said that he would not let him become a monk unless he had a grandson. Now that the crown prince really gave birth to a son, he can fulfill his wish of becoming a monk. Why are you not happy?

On the night when the crown prince was about to leave the royal city, it was the eighth day of the second lunar month, the seventh day after Rahula was born. Concubine Yasodhara was stretching out her jade arms for Rahula to sleep on, and she was also drowsy. At this moment, the crown prince visited them for the last time, and with a sigh of relief, he rode a white horse and left the city to become a monk. From then on, Luo Houluo lost the love of his father in the world.

However, the crown prince became a Buddha when he became a monk, and his father became a teacher, and he was able to make the later Rahul Luo Xiu become a holy fruit. This is also the father who is the best in the world!

Luo Houluo grew up under the love of his mother without a husband and the grandfather who lost his son when he was old. He was born as a unique prince and grandson, and lived carefree in the palace every day. In my heart, I also know the sadness of not having a father to call. However, he is under the care of his young and beautiful mother, who is his only light, his only comfort, and his only protector.

A wife who has lost her husband lives in the quiet palace, spring, summer, autumn and winter, and the only person who gives her hope in life is Luo Houluo. Mother and child depend on each other to pass the leisurely time.

Some people say that Yasodhara is a miserable woman and Rahula is a poor child, but this is only from the perspective of the common world. Her miserable life and his pitiful life are only a short period of time. Sacrifice, there will be great gains. Later, because of Buddha’s enlightenment, Yasodhara’s renunciation and enlightenment, and Rahula’s renunciation and fruition, this is the most glorious woman! This is the happiest child!

When the Buddha bid farewell to the palace, he wanted to hold his sleeping son in his arms and kiss him, but he was afraid that Princess Yasodhara would wake up and prevent him from becoming a monk, so the Buddha said when he took a last look: “Wait for me When you become a Buddha, come back and visit this son!”

The Buddha regards all living beings as Rahula, one Rahula does not matter, countless Rahula are waiting for the Buddha’s love, what the Buddha gave to all living beings is great compassion, Born in the environment of Rahula, it is easier to obtain the compassion of the Buddha. Therefore, we should not feel sorry for Rahula who has no father to call out since he was a child. He is the son of the great sage Buddha. To say that he is the happiest child in the world!

2. A child who does not know his father

In the third year of Buddha’s enlightenment, he returned to his hometown, Kapilavatthu, from Magadha in the south. All the people from the Jingfan King down to the Sakya clan went outside the city to welcome the Buddha. Only Yasodhara and Rahula did not join the welcome procession.

Yasodhara thought in his heart: He went to become a monk, and I endured loneliness and hard work for him. He wore brown clothes outside, and I was the same as him in the palace. Do the same, what else is there to be sorry for if I treat him like this? If he thought of me, he would naturally come to the palace to meet him.

Yes, Yasodhara, who had not seen her husband for more than ten years, really did not want to see the Buddha in public places. Of course, Concubine Yasodhara was more eager than anyone else to see the Buddha at this time, but for the sake of etiquette and self-esteem, she had to endure it. She went to a tall building in the palace, hoping to see the Buddha being greeted through the gaps in the doors and windows.

At this moment, Rahula, who was more than ten years old, came and said to Yasodhara, “Mom! Dad is back! Grandma (Ko Tanya) asked me to tell you!”

Luo Houluo, who was not very sensible, couldn’t think of the emotions in his mother’s heart at this time. He only felt that his mother was so majestic today that he couldn’t get close to him. However, this was his loving mother after all. He asked innocently: ” Mom! There are so many people coming to the gate of the palace, dad must be there too, what exactly does dad look like?”

He is already more than ten years old, and he still doesn’t know what kind of person his father is from his mouth. Hearing such a question, Yasodhara’s heart is full of emotions. The heart of an adult, the emotion of an adult, being a child cannot be fully known.

With a trembling voice, Yasodhara hugged Rahula in one hand and pointed to the distant palace gate with the other. With tears in his eyes, he replied to Rahura, “Look! Among the group of ascetics, the most solemn one is yours. Father.”

At this time, Luo Houluo opened his bright eyes wide, and said in amazement: “I don’t know my father, all I know is Lao Wang, and my mother who loves me the most!”

Yasodhara’s tears fell from her eyes and fell on Rahura’s head. She squeezed Rahura’s hand tightly and retreated to her palace.

It was the first time that Yasodhara secretly saw the Buddha who had been away for more than ten years. The past ten years passed silently like a dream.

Yasodhara’s heart at this moment was like a big stone thrown into a pond, causing huge waves, which could not be calmed at all. While she was crying and waiting, the Buddha sensed her heart, greeted everyone in a hurry, and then Take Sariputra and Moggallana to visit her in the inner palace.

One is the Buddha who has become enlightened, and the other is the beautiful concubine who is still very young. A meeting like this has attracted the attention of many people. The solemn Buddha, for a moment of silence, looked at it with sympathy, pity, and compassion. Yasodhara. Yasodhara, who is passionate and beautiful, is love, hatred, and ever-changing emotions intertwined in his heart.

Yasodhara was crying, and the Buddha stood silently. When her agitated emotions gradually calmed down, she realized that there was an insurmountable gap between her and the Buddha. Then she wiped away her tears, supported Rahula, and knelt down at Buddha’s feet.

The Buddha said very slowly to Yasodhara who was kneeling on the ground word by word: “I have made you hard. Although I am sorry to you, I am worthy of all sentient beings. Please be happy for me. I am now The original wish of the calamity has been achieved!”

After the Buddha spoke, he looked at Rahula again, stroked him kindly, and said, “It’s so fast! It’s grown up!”

The Buddha seems to have no emotions, but also seems to have too many emotions. The words of the Buddha, the attitude of the Buddha, are the enlightened Shariputra and Moggallana, and they are very moved!

Luo Houluo, who is in his teens, doesn’t know how to address his father now, let’s call him Dad! Such a sacred and solemn Buddha, I am really embarrassed to say it; call it Buddha! I don’t know if it should or not. Seeing so many recluse monks following the Buddha, the wise Rahula thought in his heart: The Buddha is no longer my father alone, the Buddha is the great loving father of all sentient beings!

At the age of more than ten years old, he is willing to dedicate his own father to all sentient beings as a great loving father. What an extraordinary child with good roots!

3. The original novice

The Buddha stayed in the palace for a few days. When the Buddha returned to the palace this time, there were no beauties, music, or wine in the palace. Only more than a thousand monks followed him. The majestic and majestic palace temporarily became a monk’s house.

The Buddha knew that the monks who had just learned the Tao had lived in the royal palace for a long time, and they were prone to have wavering thoughts about the life of the Sangha. .

Although the Buddha lived in the Nichato Forest, the Buddha often went to the palace to beg for alms or preach. The young Rahula often showed no fear, and said to the Buddha innocently and affectionately: “Buddha! I am so happy to be with the Buddha often. You are together!”

This sentence shows that the nature of father and son is not that they can be separated by time after not seeing each other for more than ten years. The Buddha was also deeply moved by this sentence and said: “Son! One day I will let you always be by my side beside.”

Not long after the Buddha said these words, Rahula really became a monk and followed the Buddha forever.

The reason is that Yasodhara, who is still deeply in love with the Buddha, cannot get close to the Buddha himself, and often teases the child Rahula to play with the Buddha. She thought that taking Rahula as a predestined relationship might move the Buddha’s heart and increase his affection for her. So she often dressed Rahuluo innocently and lively, wearing gorgeous clothes, and said to him: “Go ask your father for inheritance, he has treasures that we have never seen!”

Therefore, Rahula often followed the Buddha and said, “Buddha! Please give me your inheritance!”

On this day, when the Buddha was returning to Nikota Forest after begging for food, the Buddha was walking in front, and Rahula was chasing after him. Strangely, no one stopped him. He always followed behind the Buddha and shouted: ” Give me your legacy! Give me your legacy!”

Concubine Yasodhara watched the back of her only beloved son following the Buddha, fearing that Rahula would be called to become a monk, she was so anxious that she shed tears!

Indeed, as soon as the Buddha returned to the forest, he called Shariputra and said: “Shariputra! The young Rahula always asks me for my inheritance. I don’t like to give him unreal happiness and wealth. What you want to give him is the immeasurable treasure, so, Shariputra! Please accept him as a monk and let him be the first novice in the Sangha!”

After the Buddha said that, he asked Moggallana to shave Rahula’s head, and asked Rahula to worship Shariputra as a precept teacher, and Shariputra gave him ten precepts for novice monks. This is the beginning of novice monks in the Sangha!

Rahula’s renunciation was a great blow to Yasodhara. Rahula was her only hope. She loved him like her own life. Her husband was far away from her, and now her child abandoned her. This kind of sadness made her feel sad. She suddenly felt that the sun and the moon were dark, and the world was spinning. She resented the cruelty of the Buddha. For more than ten years, she had lived a monotonous and lonely life because of Rahula. Now she took the child away from her. She blamed the Buddha. Keep talking about compassion, why the Buddha had the heart to let her taste the bitterness of love and parting!

When you read this, you must be deeply moved and sympathetic to Yasodhara’s sorrow. Some people, like Yasodhara, think that the Buddha’s deeds seem a little too much. Yes, this is what we all call human feelings! However, truth and human feelings run counter to each other. Only by subduing the weakness of the human world —human feelings can we agree with the legal nature of truth!

4. Naughty childhood

Rahula became a novice monk, and Princess Yasodhara was not willing to do anything, but the fact had become a fact, and there was no way to change it. King Jingfan was also very sad and sympathetic when he saw it, so he went to the Buddha and suggested: “Buddha! I hope You can stipulate that young people who want to become monks in the future must have their parents’ permission.”

The Buddha felt that what his father said was reasonable, so he happily accepted it.

Yasodhara, who has lost all thoughts, has no interest in living in the human world. Soon after, Mrs. Kotami, the Buddha’s aunt, joined the Sangha as a bhikkhuni. Yasodhara, along with many Buddhist nuns, also rushed to Vaishali to have her hair shaved.

Because Yasodhara admired the Buddha so much, when he first joined the Sangha, he could not feel the pure Dharma joy of non-attachment in the Sangha. After enlightenment, she resumed her business and lived a stable, comfortable and peaceful life in Dharma music. She was very happy and grateful to the Buddha, and the Buddha was also very happy. To this day, the Buddha seems to have let go of the heavy burden on her!

After Rahula became a monk, it was impossible for him to practice Taoism as seriously as an adult. Not long after he became a monk, because of the novice system in the Sangha, Shariputra accepted another monk named Juntou. The child is a novice, and the two children often play together. When there is no one, they also like to play children’s games.

A young child lives in a serious monastic order every day. If he wants to, he has nothing to say. If it is because of the oppression of the environment, it is difficult to say that there are various changes in his heart. Rahula’s renunciation, he didn’t feel the joy of the new Sangha, but he never said anything dissatisfied. Before the age of fifteen, a child is naturally obedient to the words and deeds of the adults. , but after the age of fifteen, the innate instinct will naturally be dissatisfied with the reality of the world, and have the idea of resisting reality.

That was when Luo Hula was seventeen or eighteen years old. He had a gentle temperament and was enthusiastic about his work, but seventeen or eighteen-year-old boys were also the most mischievous. Luo Hula was still like a child, and often lied to lie.

At this time, Rahula lived in the hot spring forest outside Rajagha. Many officials, elders, and lay people came to ask where the Buddha lived. He always liked to joke with them. When the Buddha was in the bamboo forest, he said: In Mount Qijaburi, when the Buddha was in Mount Qijabori, he said that he was in the Bamboo Grove Abode, because the distance between these two places was about two miles away, and Rahula’s joking heart made everyone go back and forth in vain. The result is still not seeing the Buddha.

When those people came back disappointed, Rahula still smiled and asked them, “Have you ever paid homage to the Buddha?”

“Master! Why are you making fun of us?”

“Who made fun of you? I’m just worried!” The young and mischievous Luo Houluo still refused to admit his fault.

Rich and powerful sons always rely on their parents’ power and status, and like to do evil. Rahul, who was born as a son of a king and grandson, although he became a monk in an equal sangha, because he is a child, there are always many adults who are against him. He is very fond of him, so, in my opinion, Luo Houluo may also have some pampering habits, and some psychology of relying on human power.

Like Rahula lying like this, once or twice, maybe the paper tiger will not be exposed by others, but after more times, making fun of people by telling lies, such rumors finally reached the ears of the Buddha, he is a loving father and strict teacher The Buddha didn’t like it very much after hearing it, so one day he went to the hot spring forest alone, and the Buddha wanted to teach him a good meal.

5. Buddha’s Stern Teachings

One day the Buddha came to the hot spring forest where Rahula lived. Rahula was very surprised by his majestic appearance. He dressed up and greeted him respectfully. When the Buddha sat down, he washed his feet with water. The Buddha didn’t say a word, and after washing his feet, he pointed to the basin in which he washed his feet and said to Rahura, “Rahura, is the water in this basin safe to drink?”

“Buddha! The water for washing your feet is filthy and undrinkable.”

“You are just like the water used to wash your feet!” The Buddha reprimanded: “Water is originally clean, but after you wash your feet, it becomes very dirty! It’s like you were a prince and grandson, far away from the world’s false glory and wealth, and became a monk as a monk.

You have not received the monk precepts, but you are a novice who has received the ten precepts. You are not diligent in cultivating the Tao, not pure in body and mind, not careful in your words, telling jokes and deceiving people all day long, and the filth of the three poisons fills your heart, just like being pure. It’s like there’s filth in the water!”

The Buddha had never spoken to anyone in such a stern voice. Rahula did not dare to look up at the Buddha when he lowered his head. The Buddha beckoned him to pour the water away, so he dared to move. Asked him: “Luo Houluo! Can you take this bowl and put rice in it?”

Buddha! The basin for washing feet cannot be used to hold food, because the basin is not clean and there are filth sticking to it, so it cannot be used to hold food!”

“You are just like this basin. Although you have become a pure monk, you have not cultivated precepts, concentration and wisdom, and you have not purified your body, speech and mind, and your heart is full of unreal filth. How can the food of the great way be contained in your heart?”

After the Buddha said that, he kicked the basin lightly with his feet, and the basin started rolling. Rahula looked very scared, so the Buddha asked him, “Rahura, are you afraid that you might break the basin?”

“Buddha! No! The basin for washing the feet is very rough, so it doesn’t matter if it breaks.”

“Luo Hou Luo! If you don’t cherish this pot, it means that everyone doesn’t love you. You become a monk, you don’t pay attention to dignity, and you make fun of lies. This result will make no one love and cherish you, and it will be the end of your life. , and you will not be able to awaken, you will be more deluded in the delusion!”

Luo Houluo was sweating all over his body, and he was so ashamed that he had nowhere to go. He vowed to work hard to change his heart in the future.

After the Buddha finished his stern teaching, he told Rahula another parable: “In the past, there was an elephant in a country that was brave and good at fighting. Put on iron armor, tie a sharp spear to your teeth, put a sword on your ear, tie a curved blade to your feet, and tie an iron to your tail. Although an elephant has so many weapons, when it really confronts, it puts its trunk Hidden, because the trunk of an elephant is very weak, and it will die if it is hit by a sword. In order to protect its life, it has to protect its nose.

“Rahula! You should protect your nose just like this elephant. Be careful with your words. If you tease and lie, you will be like an elephant with a broken nose. Your wisdom life will die and you will not be loved by everyone. , will not be pleased by the wise, and will fall into the three realms of suffering at the end of life!”

Every sentence, every word of the Buddha’s rational, earnest, and strict teachings hit Rahula’s heart. He vowed to be a new man in the future!

No matter how good the rice is, even if it is ground into rice, there is still some chaff in it, which must be washed with clean water before it can be washed. Although Rahula has a very good caste and good roots, he must be washed by the Buddha’s Dharma water before he can be pure and untainted.

From then on, Luo Houluo really seemed to be a different person!

6. Bhikkhu monks can stay together

When the Buddha lived in the Qushiluo Garden, Rahula and Juntou Shami also accompanied the Buddha to listen to the Dharma with the master Shariputra.

Rahula cleaned the courtyard every morning to clean the environment before he could study the Buddha’s teachings. It takes a lot of time to clean a large garden. One day after cleaning, he went to listen to the Buddha’s teaching. When dusk came, when he returned to his room, a monk in charge of the dormitory gave his room to him. When the guest monk stayed, the monk put Rahula’s mantle outside, and he himself stayed inside.

In the Buddha’s Sangha, there is a rule that one person has one room. What should I do if someone else occupies his dormitory? In particular, he was still a novice. In the Sangha, the novice should respect the bhikkhu, and the Buddha taught him humiliation, which made him dare not ask the bhikkhu why he wanted to live in his room. He stood outside the door stupidly, feeling back and forth Difficult. At that time, the clouds suddenly covered, and it rained heavily.

Luo Hula had nowhere to hide, so he went into the toilet. Although the air was not good, he had to sit there. He felt homeless and lonely at the moment, and he sat quietly. There, try hard to think about the Buddha’s teachings, no matter what kind of difficult and difficult environment you are in, no matter what troubles and setbacks you encounter, don’t feel resentful. Rahula’s self-cultivation has really improved a lot.

At this time, the rain outside became heavier and heavier, and the low places were flooded. The black snake hiding in the nearby cave crawled out of the cave because of being flooded, and gradually swam into the toilet. The tropical poisonous snake, Its poison is very powerful, Luo Houluo didn’t pay attention at all, at this time his life is really more dangerous than a residual candle in the wind.

While sitting in meditation, the Buddha suddenly thought of Rahula. The Buddha sensed the danger of Rahula with his divine eyes, and immediately went to the toilet. The Buddha coughed first, and the inside also coughed. The Buddha asked, “Who is inside?”

“It’s Rahul!”

“Come out! I want to talk to you!”

Unexpectedly, it was the voice of the Buddha, Rahula came out of the toilet quickly, and hugged the Buddha unconsciously, with tears streaming down his eyes. The young Rahula’s feelings are still fragile.

The Buddha asked Rahula why he was sitting in the toilet. Rahula told the Buddha what had happened, and the Buddha told him to live in his hut first.

Rahula’s joy is like entering heaven from hell!

A young child who cuts off love and resigns from relatives and joins the Sangha really needs the care of an elder monk. Based on this karma, the Buddha stipulated that a novice who has not yet received full precepts can spend two nights in the same room with a monk. The love of the Buddha, He can take care of even the smallest details.

Originally, when a master accepts disciples, he should take the responsibility of educating them. Rahura’s master is Sariputra, and Sariputta often spreads out outside, so he can’t take care of Rahula often. But since this incident, Sariputra Just let Luo Houluo often act together with himself!

7. The virtue of patience

Since Rahula was given strict teachings by the Buddha, he often stayed with his master Shariputra, received his enlightenment, and made rapid progress in practice.

When the Buddha was preaching, Shariputra always took Rahura to listen to the lecture; when Shariputra was sitting in meditation, Rahura always sat beside him; He learned some experience of being a Dharma and being a human being; he begged alms bowl every day, and Rahula followed behind Sariputta. Shariputra, who is known as the second Buddha in the Sangha, is really Rahula’s best teacher.

Once, when Rahula and Sariputta were begging for food in Rajagaha, they met a rascal on the road. The villain threw sand into Sariputra’s bowl and smashed Rahula’s head with a stick.

The blood on Luo Houluo’s head flowed down drop by drop.

Seeing this, the villain not only didn’t know his mistake, but also cursed: “You monks, you always live on beggars, and you are full of mercy and humiliation. I will break your head and see what you can do to me?”

Seventeen or eighteen-year-old Rahula showed gritted teeth, but Shariputra comforted him and said, “Rahula! If you are a disciple of the Buddha, you should have the spirit of patience and no hatred in your heart. You should use compassion Compassionate to all living beings. The Buddha always taught us that when we have honor, we should not elevate our hearts; when we are insulted, we should not make our hearts hate.

Therefore, Rahula! Suppressing the heart of resentment and strictly adhering to humiliation, there is no comparison in the world. People who endure humiliation are more courageous, no matter how much power they have in heaven and earth, they cannot defeat humiliation!”

After listening to Master Sariputta’s instruction, Rahula walked silently to the edge of the water. His face appeared in the water. He washed the blood with his hands, and then tied up the wound with a cloth towel. Seeing this, Sariputra , I feel both comforted and sad.

Rahula endured, and still walked behind Shariputra, begging for food. On the way back, Rahula said to Shariputra: “I think of the pain just now, and I don’t take it into my heart at the moment, but, There are too many wicked people in the world, and disgusting things are everywhere. I am not angry with the world. I only think that there are too many people in the world who have no choice. The Buddha taught us to be merciful to people and the world, but violent people often Just bully us; monks practice patience and accumulate high virtues, but foolish people despise us and respect cruel people.

Buddha’s teachings of truth and compassion, they think it is a smelly dead body, and the nectar from the sky is given to pigs. He loves to eat stinky things and lives in stinky places. The truth and compassionate teachings preached by the Buddha have no effect on those who are vicious and have no roots of goodness.”

For the first time, Rahula reported his practice and his views on the world to the master. Shariputra was very happy after hearing it, and told the Buddha what Rahula said on the road. The Buddha was also very happy and praised Rahula. Very good, the attitude towards the wicked should be like that; the view towards the world is like this. The Buddha said again: “Those who do not know forbearance will not be able to benefit from the Buddha’s teachings.

Those who hate the world and others are those who disobey the Dharma and are distant monks. Falling into the evil way of reincarnation, you can be peaceful if you can endure evil deeds, and you can eliminate disasters. A wise person can see the far-reaching cause and effect, overcome anger, and practice patience. The spirit of Buddhism, the true meaning of Buddhism, and the secular world What is considered precious in the world is considered bad by Buddhism; what is considered good and right by Buddhism is not practiced by the world.

Loyalty and sycophants are incompatible, evil is jealous of righteousness, and evil does not like good. Greedy people are not happy with the practice of no desire. In this case, the only way for ascetics is to endure humiliation. Forbearance is the upper edge of the Tao, which can enable you to realize the holy fruit early; forbearance is like a boat sailing in the sea, and can overcome all disasters.

“Forbearance is a good medicine for the sick, and it can save people’s lives. I can become a Buddha, stand alone in the Three Realms, and be admired by humans and gods, because my heart can be stable and I know the value of the virtue of patience!”

Because Rahula was beaten on the head by the wicked for no reason, and he was able to endure humiliation like a saint when he was a young boy, which comforted the master a lot, brought great joy to the Buddha, and aroused the Buddha’s love for him. Shariputra was very moved when he heard the words of tolerance, and Rahula was in tears when he heard it, and he was even more grateful to the Buddha!

8. The journey of enlightenment

Rahula voluntarily made concessions to the monks who occupied his room; he was able to bear the humiliation when his head was broken by a villain on the road; only such cultivation is still a long way from enlightenment.

The smart and well-behaved Rahula, who is very diligent in practice and likes to joke with others, has now transformed into a dignified monk. When he was twenty years old, the Buddha allowed him to receive full monkhood.

The young Rahula is not necessarily active in the Sangha. He seems to be very mature and prudent. It is not easy to see him participate in public gatherings, and he always practices silently.

However, no matter how hard Luo Hula worked, it was true that he was not yet enlightened. The biggest reason is probably that his thoughts of glory are not easy to get rid of. In any case, he is always the beloved son of the Buddha and the grandson of King Jingfan. Except for the disciples of the head of the sect, many other monks respect him, envy him, and praise him. It is easy to touch the hearts of young ascetics. The words of praise are like terrible demons. Rahula, who is diligent and diligent, cannot be enlightened.

Some monks even asked the Buddha about Rahula’s enlightenment: “Buddha! But why hasn’t he been freed from his troubles?”

The Buddha replied resolutely: “Keep the precepts and purify your mind, and keep your body upright, and you will surely be able to gradually attain enlightenment!”

The question of whether Rahula could be enlightened was not on the mind of the Buddha. The Buddha was full of confidence and waited for that day to come.

Several times, Rahula seemed to be enlightened, but he was still not enlightened. He reported his experience of practice to the Buddha. The principle of harmonizing false appearances, and ask him to think about the methods of self-conceit, selflessness, suffering and happiness.

One morning, the Buddha and Rahula went to beg in the streets and alleys of Savatthi City. On the way, the Buddha looked back at Rahula and said: “Rahura! If you want to see the form, it is impermanent, and the thoughts and actions are also impermanent. ; You should think about impermanence and not be attached to human body and mind, as well as all the myriad things in the world.”

After Rahula heard these words from the Buddha, his heart seemed to be enlightened. He bid farewell to the Buddha, stopped begging, and returned to the monastery alone. Use the concept of uncleanness to throw away the heart of greed, use the concept of counting breaths to calm the heart of laziness, and use the concept of wisdom to treat the heart of ignorance. Rahula went deep into meditation.

When the Buddha came back from begging, he walked to the place where Rahula was sitting in meditation. The Buddha said to him again: “If you treat people and things with a heart of great compassion and compassion, you can expand your mind; Evil can be eradicated; the mind can be liberated by counting breaths and observing the mind.”

Rahula got up immediately, bowed to the Buddha and said, “Buddha! My troubles are gone, and I have attained enlightenment.”

The Buddha was more pleased than Rahula at this time. The Buddha praised him and said: “Among my disciples, Bhikkhu Rahula is the number one in the esoteric practice.”

The so-called secret practice refers to the three thousand dignified deeds and the eighty thousand fine practices, which Rahul and Luo can understand and follow.

Thinking back to when Rahula asked the Buddha for his inheritance, his enlightenment now is the endless Dharma wealth given to him by the Buddha! Thinking that he joined the religious order at a very young age, I don’t know how many things bothered the Buddha. Now he has given up the false pleasures of the world and obtained the real Dharma music. Let me explain, we should congratulate Rahula, and even more praise Buddha!

9. The system of gifting the Vihara

After Rahula became enlightened, his status in the religious order was further improved, especially the believers at home, who looked at him differently. It is undeniable that among the monks, Rahula received the most support.

Originally, there were too many offerings and a rich material life, which hindered the practice of Taoism. However, Luo Hula is now an enlightened saint, and the things outside his body can’t drag him down. He always donates everything that has double shares to others.

Once, when the Buddha was preaching in a settlement in Kapilavastu, an elder took refuge. This elder had a good affinity with Rahula. Perhaps this elder still had a regional concept. He wanted to protect Rahula with all his heart. Hou Luo needs something, and he always has it for him.

Later, the elder specially built a vihara to support Rahula, and Rahulo also settled down here. Because there were many monks traveling at that time, there were often monks who placed orders in the monastery where Rahula lived, but the elder thought that the monastery was his charity, and always liked to interfere with the affairs of the monastery. Rahula later reported to the Buddha, What should Buddha do? The Buddha told him: “Rahula! In my Dharma, lay believers are not allowed to take care of the affairs of the Sangha.

Lay believers donate to the monastery with their heart. Don’t interfere just because he is the one who gave. Tell the elder and ask him what is the purpose of offering the monastery? If he is a monk, the donated things are not his own. If he wants to manage it, tell him that the monastery is not a store. Yes, management can’t.”

Rahula told the elder the Buddha’s words, but those who do not have a deep understanding of the Dharma are often overwhelmed by power, or are over-zealous and persistent. If you want to teach this elder not to pay attention to the monastery, he really can’t give up completely. In this way, the relationship between him and Luo Houluo became grievous.

Luo Houluo, whom he respected in the past, has now become a thorn in his side. One day, when Rahula came to Sravasti City on business, the elder just came to visit Rahula. He saw that there was no one there, and the house was empty. So, when Rahura was away, he offered the abode to other monks. .

For lay believers, the discriminatory mind of turning back and forth is really against the law, so when Rahula finished his work and came back, the abode was already occupied by other monks, so he went back to the Gion Abode. The Buddha asked him Why did he come back to the monastery soon? Rahula truthfully told the Buddha about the situation. After hearing this, the Buddha was very displeased with the behavior of the elder. Disaster!

The Buddha immediately summoned all the monks and said, “You should not accept what you once gave to others, even if the donor gives it to you again.”

This is not because the Buddha protects Rahula. The sect’s rules are all to avoid future disputes. Unfortunately, the Buddha’s words are right. Most of the disputes in Buddhist temples today are for this reason.

When Rahula was a novice, his room was taken by someone. He hid in the toilet to avoid the wind and rain, and he didn’t fight with others for living. Now he is an enlightened monk. If you donate it to others, there will be no waves of injustice in the chest of the sage, which is as wide as the sea. It is the system of donating aborigines established by the Buddha, which we need to pay more attention to today.

10. Admirable death

In the Sangha, it is Sariputra, Moggallana, Mahakasyapa, Ananda, etc. who become dragons and elephants, not Rahula. A person who is serious about keeping the precepts in the secret practice, he just practices the Tao silently, and does not compete with the world in silence, or, because Rahula is a disciple of the Buddha, the Buddha has a lot of restrictions on him. We know that Rahula He has a gentle personality and a strong endowment, but we also know that his life as a monk was not very active!

Therefore, the deeds of his enthusiasm for preaching and discussing with heretics are not recorded in the classics, nor are they circulated. As the Buddha said, Rahula is a person who strictly abides by the precepts and practices carefully, and is a person who is the first in secret practice!

Regarding when Rahula passed away, just like his birth, there are two versions. Some say that the Buddha gave birth to a son Rahula when he was nineteen years old; some say that the Buddha gave birth to a son Rahula when he was twenty-five years old. When it comes to Nirvana, there are also two versions. One is that he passed into Nirvana a few years before the Buddha;

India is a country that does not pay attention to historical facts, and we in China also have many translators who like to exaggerate. The deeds of the Buddha and his disciples recorded sporadically in the scriptures really need to be tailored!

According to reliable records in the scriptures, Rahula’s mother, Bhikkhuni Yasodhara, passed away at the age of seventy-eight, and Rahula passed away earlier. That night, Yasodhara was thinking about many things. She thought: “Kotanmi and Lianhuase have passed away, and my beloved son Rahura has also entered Nirvana. I was born in the same year as the Buddha. This year I am seventy-eight years old.

Old age, I heard that the Buddha was about to pass into Nirvana at the age of eighty, and I wanted to pass into extinction on the same day as him, although now I only have affection for the Buddha and no personal affection for him, but this is still very disrespectful, it is better to pass into extinction earlier.”

Yasodhara obtained the permission of the Buddha, and after bowing to the Buddha to thank him, he realized his supernatural powers and flew away. That night, he passed away in his own room in samadhi.

According to the records of Yasodhara’s death, Rahura passed away long before his parents’ Nirvana. According to this, the age of Rahula’s death should not exceed 60 years old, and he only lived about 50 years old. .

Of course the enlightened sage views death, sooner or later, as commonplace. Abandoning the illusory body and living in the body of dharma, not only is there no need to be sad, but it is a very lucky thing! The enlightenment and liberation of the ascetics is to live their lives in a safe place!

Luo Houluo’s death is not “died before his ambition is fulfilled, and the hero will burst into tears.” Luo Houluo realized the fruition when he was twenty years old. This is the greatest goal of life, and he has already achieved it. , so he died with a peaceful smile.

Let Rahula’s innocence, gentleness, tolerance, strength, and calmness and demeanor live in our hearts forever! Let us express our most reverent praise to the most happy child in the world!
