Easy way to calculate your own boat and aircraft freight

Freight Charge
If you are a business entrepreneur who is interested in exporting or importing products. After reading this word, it may not be very familiar. Because most of the time, they are often transliterated as frets.
Simply put, it’s the shipping cost.
And how much is the shipping cost approximately? The answer depends on which port or city to export to (Port of Destination), what country, when to deliver the goods, which month. Today we have a simple way to calculate freight by sea and plane You can roughly estimate the cost of transportation.
Sea Freight
Shipping by container ships can be divided into two types:
- FCL (Full Container Load) charged according to the number of containers
- LCL (Less Container Load) charged per cubic meter (CBM) or volumetric weight (Weight Ton), whichever is greater, will use that value in calculating freight.
Calculation example (in case of Less Container Load)
If we want to deliver 1 lot which contains 30 boxes, 50 kg per carton. The dimensions of each box are width 50 x length 50 x height 90 cm. Delivered from Bangkok Port. to shanghai port with a freight rate of USD10/CBM (Cubic meter).
Calculation method
1. Calculate the volume in cubic meters.
Cubic Meters (CBM) = Number of Products (Boxes) x Volume of Cubic Meters per Box
= 30 x [(50 x50x90)/1,000,000] (divide 1,000,000 to convert cubic meters)
= 30 x 0.225
= 6.75 CBM
2. Calculate product weight in tons
Weight ton = amount x actual weight per box (ton)
= 30 x (50/1,000) (divide by 1,000 to convert a few tons)
= 1.50 Ton
3. Compare CBM volume with Weight ton
Based on calculation, CBM is greater than Weight ton, so CBM is used for freight calculation.
Freight = freight rate/CBM x unit volume in CBM.
= USD 10 x 6.75
= USD 67.5
**therefore The freight will be charged USD 67.5**.
Air Freight
The calculation of air freight is divided into 2 types:
- Calculated from the total weight that can be weighed (Actual Weight/Gross Weight)
- Calculating from the volume of capacity (Volume Weight)
The two values are compared to see which is greater. It will use that value to calculate freight.
freight = freight rate x product weight (obtained from comparison)
Calculation example
If wanting to send 20 boxes, weight 50 kg per box, size per carton, width 80 x length 60x height 50 cm. from Bangkok to Singapore.
Freight rates are as follows: Weight from 45 kg. 60 baht per person. Weight from 250 kg. 50 baht per person.
How to calculate
1. Calculate the actual weight of the product (Actual Weight)
Actual Weight = number of products x weight per box
= 20 x 50 = 1000 kg
2. Calculate the Volume Weight of the product
Volume Weight = number of products x volume of the box (width x length x height) (cm) / 6,000
= 20 x (80 x60 x50) / 6,000
= 800 kg
** The easy-to-remember formula of Volume Weight is cubic centimeters divided by 6,000**
3. Compare the actual weight of the product with the Volume Weight.
Based on the calculation of Actual Weight than Volume Weight, therefore, Actual Weight is used to calculate freight. by freight rates will use the weight from 250 kg, US$ 50 each
freight = freight rate x product weight
= US$ 50 x 1,000 kg = US$ 50,000
Therefore, the freight must be paid at US$ 50,000.
