What is the German University Federation called?

The German U15 University Alliance (German: German U15 Universitäten) is a university alliance composed of 15 well-known research universities in Germany. The alliance was founded on October 12, 2012 with the aim of improving the structure of research and education in Germany.

The German U15 University Alliance also maintains good cooperative relations with other major national university alliances, such as the China C9 Alliance, the UK Russell University Group, the Japan Academic Research Forum, the Australian Eight Universities Alliance, and the Canada U15 Research University Alliance. In addition, there are similar national university alliances in the world, such as the American Ivy League.

The 15 universities of the German U15 University Alliance account for 13% of the total number of German universities, undertake 37% of third-party funding, 60% of medical funding, 43% of doctoral degrees, and have won 43% of the Leibniz Prize. The chairman of the alliance is Bernd Eitel, president of the University of Heidelberg.
