Pigeon Kills Wife

If you don’t distinguish between good and bad carefully,
you will harm the other person in anger;
just like the pigeon that accidentally killed his wife,
his partner has lost something in vain and is sad.

In a forest, there lived a pair of pigeons. One autumn, the male pigeon asked the female pigeon to guard all the green forests they found in the summer, and flew to other places to look for food. When he returned to his forest, he saw that the trees had not only fruits, but also leaves were withered and sparse. He blamed his wife: “Why did you eat all the fruits?” The pigeon’s wife explained: “I didn’t eat even one!” The male pigeon didn’t listen to his explanation, and in anger, he beat his wife to death.

After the thaw the following year, the fruits that had fallen to the ground sprouted and grew again, filling the branches. The male pigeon thought about it carefully and suddenly realized: “Oh! My wife really didn’t eat a single fruit!” He felt extremely remorseful. Several young gods in the forest laughed at him and said:

There lived a dove in the woods,
with colorful wings and red eyes;
it could not distinguish between right and wrong, and
it was so sad to kill its wife.
