Twelve Karma

Karma, a term and concept that predated the Buddha and has been used in various Indian religions, is often translated as “action.” But what the Buddha referred to when he spoke of karma was the cause of action: intention. On the night of his enlightenment, one of the insights the Buddha understood was that all beings arise and pass away according to their karmic conditioning—that is, the intentions that lead to action determine what happens to them and how they move through space and time. He also saw his own past lives stretching back for eons, and appreciated that the actions he took in each of those lives propelled him into the next.

The Buddha taught that while we each have accumulated karma from previous lives as well as from the present one, karma is mutable. Every moment is an opportunity to take positive action, to think, speak, and act in a skillful way that will lead us away from the clinging and delusion that keeps us mired in suffering. In other words, we can work with our karma to ensure a better future.

For present-day Buddhists who don’t buy into the idea of rebirth, karma can still serve as a useful principle for this life, and it’s at the very heart of the Buddha’s four noble truths and his path of practice. Even if one doesn’t expect to be reborn or get enlightened, if they live virtuously, the logic goes, that person and the people around them will feel better.

The Romance of Shuchao says: The person who is aware of the fate. Enlightenment is obtained by viewing the twelve causal conditions. Although twelve. But the Four Noble Truths are bound up. Although beneficial to the heart of life. And not widely. Therefore, it is also in the sound and hearing.

Those who perceive the twelve karmic conditions. ignorance. It’s called troubles and troubles. two lines. Karma. These two branches belong to the past. Three senses. Hold the fetus for a breath. Four colors. The name is the heart. Color is quality. Five or six. Six into one. In this fetus. Six touches. This is born. Seven. Accept the likes and dislikes of the future. From knowing to receiving. The name is now Wuguo. Eight loves. Love men and women gold and silver and other things. Nine to take. It is the heart that sees all realms. These two future causes. All are troubles. As ignorant as in the past. out of ten.

Achievement. It is because the future belongs to the path of karma. As in the past. Eleven students. Things will happen in the future. Twelve die of old age. This is the Four Noble Truths. So the reopener. A person who is aware of fate. Observe the essence of Ji first. The so-called ignorance. Consciousness. Even life and death. This arises. If you destroy the viewer. There is no light or death. Then it will die. Even birth and death. Then grow old and die. Because of the twelve karma. Feel the truth. It is said that fate is felt. This person breaks the Three Realms and sees and thinks. Same as sound and hearing. More aggressive. The former residence is heard.

Those who can’t get out of the Four Noble Truths. If the circulation door. The ignorant love to take the three branches is the path of affliction. There are two branches of action that are the path of karma. These five branches are the truth of settling. The seven branches of knowing name and form are the truth of suffering. If you still destroy the door. The wisdom of the first twelve causes and conditions is the truth of the Tao. To prove the principle of extinction is the truth of extinction.

“Fate Awareness Photographer”. This sutra does not mention predestined enlightenment, which is included in the voice-hearing. “Enlightenment is obtained by observing the twelve causal conditions. Although there are twelve branches”, these twelve branches are twelve subjects. “The Four Noble Truths cannot be separated from the bundle”, “bundle” means “induction”, and induction is inseparable from the Four Noble Truths. Therefore, the Four Noble Truths are the fundamental Dharma wheel in Hinayana, and the Twelve Causes and Conditions are nothing more than unfolding the Four Noble Truths and explaining them in detail. ”

Although it is beneficial to the heart of life, it is not widespread, so it is captured in the sound and hearing.” In Sanskrit, Pacchi Buddha, “Pacchi” is translated as “Fate”, and “Buddha” is translated as “Enlightenment”. So Yuanjue is the pratyekabuddha. He became enlightened from twelve causes and conditions. Although this type of people also save sentient beings, they do not take the initiative.

They are like arhats. You go to him, and he sees that you have a lot of predestined relationship with him in the past, so he saves you. If you go to him, he will settle down and observe. If you have no predestined relationship with him in the past life, he will not save you. Why? Because you don’t believe it, and you don’t want to listen to it, so he doesn’t have to talk, and you don’t have to worry. Bodhisattvas are compassionate and take the initiative to educate and transform all living beings. Arhats and Pacceka Buddhas do not take the initiative to teach people, so they belong to Hinayana.

“Those who perceive the twelve causal conditions. ignorance. It is called the path of afflictions, obstacles, and afflictions.” Starting from this paragraph, I will give us a brief explanation of what is called the twelve causal relationships. The first is “ignorance”. Here we are talking about “twig ignorance”, not “fundamental ignorance”. Ignorance at all, broke the first grade, and became the first abode Bodhisattva of the Perfect Teaching, the master of the dharmakaya. Arhats and Pacceka Buddhas also break through ignorance, but not at the root of ignorance, but at the “twigs of ignorance”.

“Ignorance at the end of branches” is “affliction of seeing and thinking”. In the Four Noble Truths, it is called seeing, thinking, affliction, and in the Twelve Causes and Conditions, it is called ignorance. Ignorance is seeing, thinking, troubles, and confusion! This is an annoyance, annoyed said. “Affliction Obstacle” is “Seeing Confusion”, and “Affliction Path” is “Thinking Confusion”. Seeing afflictions and thinking about afflictions is ignorance. “Second line. Karma. “. The second is “action”. If you have affliction obstacles and afflictions, that is, if you have views, thoughts and ignorance, you will definitely act rashly. “Action” is to create karma. The path of karma, it is created, with “ignorance” as the cause, “action” as the cause, “ignorance” is farther away, and “karma” is closer.

If we take the three generations of grandparents and grandchildren as an example, “ignorance” is the grandfather, “industry” is the father, and the son born is the lower “knowledge”. “Knowledge” is “retribution”. The following five are all knowledge, and all are retribution. Therefore, what is far away from this effect is called “Fate”, and what is close is called “Cause”. Therefore, “ignorance” is the “condition”, and “action” is the “cause”. There is a cause and a condition, and there will be results later. This is the karma of karma, and we are all creating it today.

“These two branches belong to the past”, these two articles are about the past. Because you deceived, perverted, and created karma in the past life, you have received retribution in this life. Come to reincarnate first. In the six realms, we take the human realm as an example, and the other five realms are all the same without exception.

“Three Consciousnesses”: In the human realm, “consciousness” is the first, and “knowledge” is “spiritual consciousness”. As we say, “soul” is reincarnated by the soul. “Breathing a breath”, the speed of spiritual consciousness is very fast, it can be said that it transcends time and space, and the spiritual consciousness transcends time and space. Although Confucius didn’t say it clearly, there is some news from his article. In the “Book of Changes”, he talked about “wandering souls become changes”, and “spiritual consciousness” Confucius called it “wandering souls”. It is absolutely correct to say that wandering souls, why? It moves too fast. His two words “wandering soul is change, essence is matter”. It is exactly the same as the outlook on life of the universe taught in Buddhism.

“Things” are “substances”. Where does matter come from? “Essence” is “object”. It can be seen that Confucius did not admit the real existence of matter. What is matter? Just spirit. Now scientists do not admit that there is matter. What is matter? is vibration. Vibration and light movement are illusions, not real substances. Therefore, what Confucius said in the “Book of Changes” 2,500 years ago can correspond to modern science. Buddhism goes into more detail. The “essence” mentioned by Confucius is “viewing” in consciousness-only, and “things” is “separation”. Seeing the same source, seeing the same appearance, this is what is said in Buddhism, so it is said that the spiritual consciousness comes to reincarnation.

To be honest, do couples have to have children? not necessarily! There are many people who are married all their lives and have no children. Why not give birth? no fate. A child will come to your home to reincarnate if he or she has a predestined relationship with you. He has no destiny with you, and will not come to your house to reincarnate. In other words, he went to reincarnate to find a partner. If you beg him, he may not answer you. He is looking for a partner, what kind of partner is he looking for? Relationships that existed in past lives.

The Buddha told us four kinds of causes and conditions in the scriptures: the first is to repay kindness. In the past, you were kind to each other, and this time he saw you again and came to your house to reincarnate. This is what we Chinese call filial sons and virtuous grandchildren, who come to repay their kindness, and they can never be badly imitated. The so-called good sons and daughters and filial sons and daughters are the good causes of past cultivation.

The second is complaining. In the past life, you had hatred with him. In this life, you met him and he came to be your son or daughter. When you grow up in the future, you will be a prodigal son and ruin your family. He is here for revenge. Therefore, you can’t form enmity with others, external enmity can be prevented, what if he is reincarnated into your family? How do you defend against it? You killed that person, well, when his consciousness comes to your house to be your descendant and your family, what will you do? So I decided not to have the intention of harming others! These are the so-called disobedient children and grandchildren, who ruin the family.

The third category is debt collectors, debt collectors. It was his parents who owed him in the past, and he came to collect the debt. If the debt is small, after two or three years of raising him, he died, and you spent a lot of money on him, and he left after paying off. If he owes a lot, he will pay until he graduates from college, and he will be able to work soon. He will be a debt collector. If the debt is cleared, he will leave when he is fine.

The fourth type is debt repayment. It is he who owes his parents. He has to pay off the debts in his life, and he has to work hard to support his parents. That also depends on how much debt you owe? If he owes a lot to his parents, he will provide a lot of material support to his parents. If he owes very little debt, he will be very mean to his parents in life. Why? Pay off the debt! Although this type of person can provide for their parents, they have no respect or filial piety. Those who repay kindness are filial, but those who repay debts are not filial, and even despise and hate their parents in their eyes, but he will give you living expenses, as for how much? It depends on how much he owed you in the past. Buddha told us the truth, a family is the set of relationships.

The same is true for families, and it is also true for a family, and it is the same for all relatives and friends you know, but there are fewer grievances and debts. When there are many grievances and debts, they become a family of father and son brothers, and if they are farther away, they become relatives and friends. So there is a relationship between people. When you walk on the road, a stranger nods and smiles at you, which is also the fate of the past.

Seeing strangers who have never known each other before, it is not pleasing to the eye when you see it, it is also the fate of the past. So to find out the truth of this fact, we really have to be cautious, and we must not form enmity with all sentient beings, and do not have a debt relationship with all sentient beings. Debts must be repaid clearly to avoid repayment in the next life. This is a very troublesome matter.

Therefore, the teachings of Confucian and Buddhist sages all advise us to resolve these grievances. This is the best and most complete method. This shows that reincarnation is not random, it is closely related to past lives. When it was first reincarnated, it was called “knowledge”, and it cannot be called “name”. Therefore, when the mother is pregnant, it is the divine consciousness that comes to reincarnate.

“Four names and forms, the name is the mind, and the form is the quality. 』”Name and form” refers to the appearance of the fetus before it has grown into shape, about one or two weeks, or fourteen days old. There is no shape, nothing can be distinguished, just a lump of meat. But there is spiritual consciousness in the meat, so it is called “name and form”. “Name” is “heart”, it is alive, it is not dead. “Form” is “substance”, so it is called “name and form”.

“Five or six enter, and six roots form this womb. 』When the fetus grows up, it is called “six entry”. The “six-entrance” means that the “fetus” is formed, it looks like a person, and the six roots grow out. This time is called “six-entrance”. When the six roots are not complete, it is called “name and form”. The three branches of “consciousness”, “name and form”, and “six entrances” are all in the womb.

“Six touches. This is born”. The sixth is “touching”. “Touching” means being born, contacting the outside world means being born. From birth to old age and death, one is in contact with the outside realm, so after leaving the mother’s body, it is called “touching”, and the contacting time is very long.

“Seven Sentences. Accept the likes and dislikes of the future. From knowing to receiving. The name is now Wuguo. “”Receiving” means “accepting the likes and dislikes of the future”. Touch has no likes and dislikes, no liking, no dislike, and no fear; like a baby, it eats its own shit. This is because he has “touch” but no “feeling”. At this time he doesn’t understand anything. When he grows up, he has feelings of likes and dislikes.

Before there was “shou”, we Chinese often talked about “innocence”. His heart was pure, happy, free from worries, likes and dislikes. In the past, people were naive for a long time, usually after the age of ten. In the past, at my age, I didn’t know likes and dislikes until I was ten years old, and I didn’t know before ten years old. This is the happiness of childhood!

Today’s children are pitiful, why? I think he has likes and dislikes when he is one or two years old. In other words, his childhood was shortened, and the time of suffering and pleasure was brought forward. How could it be early? Watching TV every day, TV teaches him every day, so two or three-year-old children can read words and expressions, and know the likes and dislikes of adults. They care about it in their hearts, and they have to use their scheming. In the rural society in the past, childhood innocence was longer, but now it is shortened.

Therefore, people today can’t do it. It’s too hard to be reborn as a human being in the next life. Although the technology is advanced now, modern people’s life is like a machine, and the human taste is gone. In other words, the meaning and value of life are lost. This is what we are doing. To be conscious. So this “accepting” is the state of accepting likes and dislikes. These five are the retributions, which are the retributions of this life.

The “ignorance” and “action” of the previous life are conditions and causes. Only with this cause and condition can we have the retribution in this life. If you really understand the principles of Buddhism, you will know the truth of life in the universe.

In our life, when we suffer and enjoy, we don’t have to blame others, why? It’s all self-inflicted! Suffering is not given to us by others, it is created by ourselves, how can we blame people! How can you blame God for being unfair! To think of this is to commit a crime even more, and the crime is even greater. Getting rich and winning the lottery is life. Without this life, destroying the statues of bodhisattvas, ghosts and gods will cause even greater crimes.

I heard that there is a man who worships the Buddha and Bodhisattva who plays the Mark Six lottery, bless him to win the lottery, and if he doesn’t win the lottery, the Buddha and Bodhisattva will be beheaded and burned the next day. This creates karma! If you blame others, you will create more serious crimes, so this “suffering” has a cause and effect.

“Eight loves. Love men and women, gold and silver, etc.” Eight loves, nine graspings, and ten possessions are the fabrications of this life. The first one is “love”. What is love? Covetousness, “love of men and women, gold and silver, etc.” The scope of love is too wide. “Love” is “ignorance” and “confusion”. After loving, there is action, and there is fabrication. Underneath fabrication is “acquiring”, and after loving, “acquiring” is “acquiring”. What you like, you want to possess it.

This is “acquiring”. If you don’t like it, if you want to tell it to leave, it is also “acquiring”, it is all grasping. This is called making karma, making things. Mind-blowing, thought-making, and fabrication all belong to this word. Therefore, “love” and “acquisition”, “these two future causes are all afflictions, just like the past ignorance”. This is the seed of karma, and after the creation of karma, there is “existence”. “have what?

The seeds of good and evil are planted in the alaya consciousness. Once you have the seeds, you will be rewarded in the next life. Therefore, our creations in this life, “loving, grasping, and having”, are fulfilled one by one as the cause and condition of the future, belonging to the path of karma, just like ignorance and behavior in the past.

“eleven. Things will happen in the future”. The eleventh “birth”. Birth is “future birth”. In the next life, there will be reincarnation and reincarnation. “Twelve old age and death”. After reincarnation, you will be reincarnated forever, which is called reincarnation. You need to know why there is reincarnation? What is the principle of reincarnation? The Twelve Links of Karma is to answer this question for you.

Why is there reincarnation? Reincarnation is created by ourselves, and the phenomenon of reincarnation is so terrible. This is what we need to wake up to. How to leave reincarnation after enlightenment? To be honest, leaving samsara is inseparable in terms of results. Some people live in pain and feel that life is meaningless, so they commit suicide. Can suicide solve the problem? cannot! The report does not solve the problem. To solve the problem, we should solve it from the “cause” and “condition”, and break the “cause” and “condition”. We know that “love” is a predestined relationship, and you can stop loving at all, and your cycle of life and death will be broken and you will be free from the cycle of life and death. Probably below the Quanjiao, the Bodhisattvas of the Quanjiao, and the sravakas of Yuanjue all cut off from these two places. Bodhisattvas with strong roots, Mahayana Bodhisattvas, and real teaching Bodhisattvas start with “existence”, that is true kung fu.

“Love constantly, but never leave impressions in your heart”, this is the most brilliant. Let me tell you: “Tantra is where it ends.” Let’s think about it, do we have the ability? “Continuous love and acquisition, pure heart, no impressions”, this is not something ordinary people can do. For ordinary people, it is not easy to cut off love and grasping; it is very difficult to cut off “existence”. That’s what Mahayana Bodhisattvas can do. It’s called playing in the world, and only then can we truly achieve great freedom. With “love” and “acquisition”, without “having”, he will not fall into samsara.

We can’t do it today, we can only chant “Amitabha”. When we chant Amitabha, we also “have”, we “love”, “take” and “have”. We love Amitabha, take Amitabha, and have Amitabha in our hearts. That’s how you get a job.

Because this “Amitabha Buddha” cannot be found in the six realms of reincarnation—there is no Amitabha Buddha in the three evil realms, and there is no Amitabha Buddha in the asura, human realm, and heaven realm. So if you engage in “love”, “acquisition” and “being” on Amitabha Buddha, there is no way to receive retribution in the six realms, so you have to go to the Western Paradise to receive retribution.

This is wonderful! Of all the 84,000 Dharma-doors, none of them are as wonderful as this one. Today, we cannot break the three principles of “love”, “acquisition” and “being”. Change one thought and change it to “Amitabha”. Therefore, I advise students to look at the image of Amitabha Buddha every day, recite Amitabha Buddha every day, recite the Infinite Life Sutra every day, and recite the Amitabha Sutra every day. You should not stop for a day.

“This is the Four Noble Truths, so it is reopened.” This is to expand the Four Noble Truths into twelve causal conditions, “Those who are enlightened by predestined relationship should first contemplate the Noble Truth.” The so-called ignorance is not the same as “Sheng Hear”, “Sheng Hear” is enlightened from “Suffering Truth”. “Fate Enlightenment” is to cut off confusion from “Ji Truth”.

“The so-called ignorance is related to action, action is related to consciousness, and even birth is related to old age and death. This arises. “. Here we talk about reincarnation, which is reincarnation of life and death. If you want to go beyond the six realms of reincarnation, you can understand it by looking at the twelve karmic conditions in reverse. This is called returning the gate of extinction.

“If the person who observes the extinction, the ignorance is extinguished, then the action is extinguished. ’, the “action” will cease. “Even birth and death, old age and death.” So when you look at it in reverse, it is wisdom. Just see through this life in the universe. Therefore, “Because of looking at the twelve causes and conditions, you can feel the truth, so you can say that you are aware of the conditions.”

This person cuts off the three worlds to see and think, and is the same as the sound-hearer.” His testimonials are the same as those of the shravakas. He is smarter than the sravaka, so he is “more intrusive, and his former home is on the savahear”. The afflictions of the voice, hearing, seeing, thinking, and thinking are broken, and the habitual energy is not broken. The predestined relationship is broken. So it is higher than the kung fu of an arhat.

What is habit? There is a metaphor in the Buddhist scriptures, such as a wine bottle, which is used to hold wine. Now you pour out the wine in the wine bottle, and there is indeed no wine in it. You can wipe it clean with a dry cloth, but the smell is still there. It has the smell of wine, which is compared to habit. Therefore, among the disciples of the Buddha, there are many disciples of the rich and the noble. They become monks with the Buddha, and the wealthy and noble people have the habit of arrogance.

After he has attained Arhatship, the arrogance is indeed broken. It really is gone, but sometimes the arrogant attitude is still there. It’s called habit. Is it true? Really not, he is really respectful to people, but his habit is still there. So it is said that afflictions are easy to break, but habits are hard to break. But habits often lead to misunderstandings by others, so learn to be humble, respectful, and courteous, and learn these things to break the habits.

Knowing the seven branches of name and form is the truth of suffering.” Although the twelve causes and conditions are described in more detail, they can be summed up as nothing more than the Four Noble Truths.

The Four Noble Truths talk about “suffering, origin, cessation, and Tao”. “Ji Truth” is to create karma caused by confusion, “ignorance” is the affliction of the past, “love” and “grasping” are the afflictions of the present, so these three factors are all afflictions, which are the confusion in the suffering of confusion karma. In this place, we must especially remember that ignorance is a matter of the past life, and there is nothing we can do about it. Now if you have “craving” for all dharmas, if you want to “grasp”, “grasping” means possession, this is delusion and perversion, these are the path of affliction. “Kamma” is the karma that belongs to the past life.

“Being” refers to the present, and is the karma created in this life. Since there is karma, of course there will be retribution. Therefore, “action” and “being”, these two branches are karma-making, which belong to the way of karma. It can be seen from this that our “possessive desire” (“possessive desire” in psychology now) is what Buddhism calls “karma creation”. The three evil ways, the good fruit is in the three good ways. All in all, one cannot break away from the six realms of reincarnation, so karma cannot be created.

Not creating karma is easy to say but hard to do. Why? Every thought is creating karma, how can this happen! Therefore, all methods are to help us eliminate confusion, eliminate karma, and escape from the six realms of samsara. Among all the methods, the simplest, easiest, fastest, and most reliable is none other than the “recitation of Buddha”. We think of the Buddha and chant the name of the Buddha in our hearts at twenty-six o’clock, all day long. At all times and in all places, we should not forget this one Buddha’s name. This is also creating karma. What kind of karma is this creating?

Creating pure karma is the karma of creating Amitabha Buddha. This industry is not bad, why? There is no such retribution in the three realms and six realms, there is no Amitabha Buddha in the three good realms, and there is no Amitabha Buddha in the three evil realms. That’s why it’s called clean karma. Create pure karma, and the future result will be rebirth in the Western Paradise of Ultimate Bliss.

Apart from this one way, we really can’t find another way to go. Neither good nor evil karma can be created, not only do not create evil karma, but also do not do good karma. Only by thinking of Amitabha and seeking to be reborn in the Pure Land can one escape from the cycle of six realms

Therefore, “ignorance”, “love”, “acquisition”, “action”, and “existence” are the “collective truths” in the Four Noble Truths. Except for these five branches, the remaining seven branches are all “the truth of suffering”. From “consciousness” to “feeling” is the result of this life. The causes created in the past will be rewarded now; “love”, “acquiring” and “being” are the causes created now; “birth” and “aging and death” are the results received in the next life. So you have to ask how did the six realms of reincarnation come about? Twelve karmic relationships will be explained to you clearly and plainly.

This is called the “door of revolving doors”. “Flow” what? Walk according to the order of the twelve karmic conditions, and follow the order, which is to create the six reincarnations. What about the other way around? It’s called “returning the gate”.

“The wisdom of the twelve causal conditions before extinction is the truth of the Tao.” Why do people age and die? Because of life! Without birth there is no old age and death. What are the benefits of being born? The consequence of birth is old age and death. Then why is there life?

Because there is “taking”, why is there taking? Because there is “love”. Turn it over like this and look up to find its reason. This is wisdom. Among the twelve causal relationships, as long as you can break one, the six paths of reincarnation will disappear. From where? It must be broken from the “cause” and “condition”; the “effect” cannot be broken.

Some ignorant people feel that life is very painful, and mistakenly think that suicide can be terminated. Because after committing suicide, he was reincarnated within a few days, lived a harder life, and went through the six realms of reincarnation. So suicide is endless, it can’t solve the problem, not only can’t solve the problem, it can only make the problem worse, and the next life will be infinitely more miserable than this life. This cannot be done. It must be cut off on the “cause and condition”, that is, on the “Ji Truth”, and there is no way to cut off on the “Suffering Truth”, because suffering is the result.

We know that “ignorance” and “action” are the causes and conditions of the past life, how can the past life be broken. The only way is to cut off from the present life. In the current life, check the twelve causal conditions, and there are only three branches of “love”, “acquisition” and “being”. “Break off, or “Get” off, or “Have” off. If one of these three branches is cut off, it will be enough, and one can leave the six realms of reincarnation.

This is called “returning the gate of destruction”. You have this wisdom, you know the truth, you know where to start, this is the “truth of the Tao”. “Tao” is the way of practice, you have found it. Practicing in this way to transcend samsara, life and death, is the “Mirror Truth”. To prove the “principle of extinction” is “the truth of extinction”. This is to explain the twelve causes and conditions, not the four truths.

Although “Yuanjue” saves sentient beings, he is actually similar to an arhat. He does not take the initiative to save sentient beings, but he is willing to teach when sentient beings ask him. If sentient beings don’t ask him, he won’t go to people. Unlike bodhisattvas, they are uninvited friends of all sentient beings. Therefore, the number of sentient beings saved by him is not many and not extensive, so he combined the predestined consciousness with the sound and hearing, and we call it Hinayana. If we talk about the Three Vehicles, then the Shravakas are the Hinayana, the Enlightened Enlightenment is the Middle Vehicle, and the Bodhisattvas are the Mahayana.
