The capital city of Qatar

Doha is the capital and largest city of Qatar, a West Asian country. It is also a famous port along the Persian Gulf. It is an international metropolis, the largest city in Qatar, and a political, economic, cultural and transportation center.

Known for its oil and natural gas production, Doha has become the lifeblood of Qatar’s economy. Many oil and gas companies are headquartered in Doha, including Qatar Petroleum and RasGas. Since Qatar’s economic lifeline is based on oil and gas, the Qatari People’s Government wants to diversify their economy.

Doha was originally a fishing port and a concentration port for pearl ships. After World War II, it prospered with the development of the country’s oil industry. Has built a deep-water port, desalination plants, plastic products plants, steel plants, power plants and international airports. Many of the residents are oilfield workers.

On December 26, 2019, it ranked 61st in the 2019 Global Top 500 Cities List. On December 16, 2020, Beijing time, the 39th plenary session of the Olympic Council of Asia was held on the same day. The participating member states voted online to select the host city of the 2030 Asian Games – Doha, the capital of Qatar.

Doha has a tropical desert climate, with an annual average temperature of 18 to 30°C and a maximum of 45°C. The average annual rainfall is about 120mm. The average tide height is 1.5m at high tide and 0.4m at low tide.

There are 9 main wharf berths in the port area, the coastline is 1829m long, and the maximum water depth is 9.1m. The loading and unloading equipment includes various shore cranes, container cranes, straddle loaders and tugboats, among which the maximum lifting capacity of the shore crane is 70 tons. The warehouse area is about 48,000 square meters. The large ship anchorage has a water depth of 15m. In 1991, the container throughput between the port and UMM SAID port reached 129,000 TEU. The main imported goods are grain, building materials and timber, and the main export goods are oil. The Qatari riyal to US dollar ratio is 3.64:1.

city characteristics

Doha is the political, economic and cultural center of the country, and it is also a beautiful and mysterious city. The low-key and quietness is what impressed me the most in this city. Since the population is not very large, pedestrians are rarely seen on the street, and because the oil countries are rich, taxis are even rarer. There is no noise from large and small vehicles, and no crowds of people going to work. The city was so quiet that when the sun came out, I still couldn’t believe it wasn’t night.

clothing customs

The clothing of Qataris is the same as that of the Gulf countries. Men wear white robes in summer and dark robes in winter, such as blue, brown, and gray. Wear a white, red or plaid turban on the head, with a black rope loop pressed on the turban, and wear slippers on bare feet in summer and leather shoes in winter. Women’s clothing is relatively simple, and they must wear black robes and veils when going out. Modern young people are a little more open, wearing bright skirts, white or even pastel headscarves.
