Karamana River in Kerala, India

Karamana is a river flowing through the city of Thiruvananthapuram in Kerala, India. The river starts near the southern tip of the Western Ghats at Agastyar Koodam. The river flows 66 km westward and merges with the Arabian Sea at Panathura near Kovalam. It further merges with the Arabian Sea near Kovalam, after flowing 66 km westward. The name has been derived from a suburban area in Thiruvananthapuram of the same name.

The catchment area of the river mainly consists of forests or dry land crops such as pepper, coconut and rice. The river has two important dams on it, namely Aruvikkara Dam (built in 1930s) and Peppara Dam (built in 1983). There are several bridges too that are built above this river and the largest of all is where NH-47 crosses it. An expansive biodiversity is often found near the embankments of this river.
