Austria is a German-speaking country in Central Europe, characterized by mountain villages, baroque architecture, Imperial history and rugged Alpine terrain. Vienna, its Danube River capital, is home to the Schönbrunn and Hofburg palaces. It has counted Mozart, Strauss and Freud among its residents. The country’s other notable regions include the northern Bohemian Forest, Traunsee Lake and eastern hillside vineyards.
A landlocked country in Central Europe. North to Germany and Czech Republic. Eastern to Slovakia and Hungary South to Slovenia and Italy And west to Switzerland and Liechtenstein. There is a dictatorial democracy under the principle of parliament.
Administrative divisions of Austria
Austria is a federal state of the states – Bundesländer. These states divide the districts into districts (districts – Bezirke) and cities (cities – Statutarstädte), each of which also divides into municipalities. (municipalities- Gemeinden)
The nine states of Austria are:
1. Burgenland = Eisenstadt
2. Carinthia; Kärnten = Klagenfurt
3. Lower Austria; Niederösterreich = St. Pölten
4. Upper Austria; Oberösterreich = Linz
5. Salzburg
6. Styria; Steiermark = Graz
7. Tirol = Innsbruck
8. Vorarlberg = Bregenz
9. Vienna; Wien
