Faith Makes Great 理想照耀中国 Episode 2 Recap

On April 12, 1927, Chiang Kai-shek launched an April 12 coup in Shanghai that shocked China and foreign countries. The Kuomintang reactionaries brutally killed the Communists. In the autumn of 1927, the Communist Party member Zhang Jingquan changed the name of Zhang Renya. He was chased by the Kuomintang reactionaries and was seriously injured. He risked his life and fled back to his hometown of Xiapu County, Zhejiang Province.

He gave his father Zhang Jueqian a parcel with precious party documents. Zhang Renya admitted that he had joined the Chinese Communist Party and asked his father to give this package to the Communist Party. Zhang Jueqian saw that Zhang Renya was injured and hurried back to the house to get him some eggs. Zhang Renya knelt and left his father in a hurry. Zhang Jueqian went out and found that Zhang Renya had already disappeared.

Ever since Zhang Renya left, Zhang Jueqian hid the package everywhere, for fear of being discovered, he guarded the package as if he was dead. Zhang Jueqian went to the city to sell vegetables and saw the Kuomintang authorities wantonly slaughter the Communists. The Communists died tragically at the feet of Zhang Jueqian. He couldn’t help thinking of his son Zhang Renya’s entrustment before leaving, and secretly prayed to Zhang Renya. Live well.

Zhang Jueqian considered repeatedly, discussed with his children, and decided to set up a burial mound for Zhang Renya and bury the precious package in it. Zhang Jueqian built a straw shed next to the tomb, where he lived and watched day and night. The son’s clothing mound also guarded Zhang Renya’s beliefs as a communist.

In a blink of an eye, three years passed, and Zhang Jueqian remained at his grave without any regrets. The villagers talked about him. His son Zhang Jingmao demolished the straw shed and asked him to move home. Zhang Jueqian forced Zhang Jingmao away. He ran. From then on, he went out early every day and returned late every day, and Zhang Renya’s burial mound was guarded on the mountain rain or shine. Time flies, and more than ten years have passed. Seeing that in 1941, Zhang Jueqian had guarded Zhang Renya’s clothing mound for more than ten years. The villagers suspected that he had bought gold and silver treasures in it.

As usual, Zhang Jueqian saw Zhang Jingming’s third child digging a grave in the morning as usual. He was so angry that he forced them away. Zhang Jueqian lay on the cloak and wept loudly. Zhang Jingmao rushed when he heard the news. Seeing this scene, he felt uncomfortable, and Zhang Jueqian forced him to set up the new shed and continue to stay here.

Zhang Jueqian got older day by day, he was worried that he would not be able to hold on to that day, and his heart was full of emotion. Zhang Jueqian suddenly heard the firecrackers firing under the mountain, and people cheered, only to realize that China was liberated. On October 1, 1949, the People’s Republic of China was founded. Zhang Jueqian explained the truth to Zhang Jingmao. Zhang Jingmao found the party organization. Zhang Jueqian handed over the precious party documents left by Zhang Renya to them. The staff did not dare to delay. , Immediately reported the matter to the Central Committee, Zhang Jueqian took out the package stained with Zhang Renya’s blood, asked them about Zhang Renya’s whereabouts, and they promised to look for it as soon as possible.

Zhang Jueqian leaned on crutches and hobbled to the mountain, looking at Zhang Renya’s cloak, feeling mixed. At this moment, there was a sound of “Daddy” behind him, and Zhang Jueqian seemed to see Zhang Renya standing not far away and smiling at him, Zhang Jueqian showed a pleased smile.

Zhang Renya led the Shanghai gold and silver industry strike. At the age of 35, he died for the country due to illness. The documents Zhang Jueqian protected with his life were later included in the National Archives.
